Thank you for this post! While I'm not buying the volt, I checked other Ooni models and the 1st generation Koda 12 is on sale for $250! And it includes a peel as well. I ordered that one. You should update this post to include that one as well.
It's still unclear to me if the 2 is actually better. The 2 obviously costs less to build and is not outdoor rated.
They sent it to a bunch of YouTube influencers who made videos, but no one seems to be outright comparing results.
In either case I think it's going to be a while before the 2 ever hits $400 or ever sold by costco so I'm in for one.
i picked up the volt 2. Previous oven was the breville pizzaiola.
Have not seen the original volt but, its heavier and the viewing window isn't as large. Maybe the smaller window isn't a deal breaker but the weight for me is. I lug this around frequently (it's not stored in the kitchen) so I appreciate the lighter weight. The volt 2 is basically auto-only. You can fine tune the stone temp a bit from each preset, but its not like the manual controls with the breville and volt 12. So if you like tinkering (like I do) then the volt 12 or breville are better in that sense. one really nice feature of the volt 2 is proofing. Now that its winter or if i want to accelerate proofing I can put in up to 4 250g dough balls in glass containers in the volt 2 and you could set a proofing temp of say 80F. I believe the range is from 70-95 or thereabouts. its a really nice feature.
tl;dr the volt 2 gets you ease of use, smaller size/weight and features. you lose the outdoor rating.
