The Onyx Studio 8 is a large portable Bluetooth speaker that stands out for rich sound, strong bass, and a stylish design, with several comparisons putting it near much pricier speakers. It works well as a TV or apartment speaker, and pairing two units can create a wider stereo setup. The main drawbacks are its size and weight, limited portability, and battery life that can land around 6 hours or less. Pairing two speakers also has quirks, since the stereo link may need to be reactivated after power cycles or Bluetooth reconnects. A solid pick if you want big sound more than grab and go convenience.

I think I paid $90 a year or two ago. I've been using it since. I think these are decent for the sale price. If you don't need one, don't get it. It might look like a deal but is it really a deal if they over inflate the retail price by this much?

Good idea, because if someone does not like your singing, you don't want them to throw this 10 lb exercise ball at you.

I bought two Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 8 units and tested them in stereo Boost mode, and here's something others might want to know:

• Both speakers show solid white LEDs (Boost mode active).
• But if Bluetooth disconnects and reconnects, stereo mode does not return.
• Only the primary speaker plays audio even though both still show the Boost LED.
• The only way to restore stereo is to either:
— power-cycle both speakers, or
— factory reset them,
and then manually put them back into Boost pairing again.

HK support told me this is "normal and expected" behavior and that stereo Boost mode must be manually reactivated after every Bluetooth reconnect.

Sharing this for anyone planning to use them as a persistent stereo pair.

These are so good for an apartment setup. I have 2 of these for over 2 years now. I used a 3.5mm splitter for L and R channels from the TV and it beats most of the 2.1 sound bar setups you could get for about the same price or even higher.

I just purchased and received mine. Outstanding sound quality for the money. We have ours plugged in all the time and paired it to our TV. This easily replaced the soundbar we were using. Even with only using one, it fills the room with sound and deep bass. No issues pairing or connecting and it looks stylish sitting on the shelf. Not sure if it was ever actually priced at $500 but it's definitely worth spending $100. I was so happy with it, I just purchased another one as a Christmas gift. Great speaker and I would highly recommend looking in to this deal if you're in the market for one.

If you always have it plugged in at all times its incredible sounding for its size. ON battery its life is MAYBE 2 hrs. I use this as my main TV speaker (always plugged in and run from tv via 3.5mm cord) and its worth $100 for sure.
So does this speaker have signal sensing and Automatic start up?

If it's plugged in, does turn off automatically? Looking for some speakers to hook up to home assistant PE.

These are at most $150 regularly. $500 is an inflated number. Still 33% off isnt terrible.

Bought two of the onyx 7. They sound great, however one died within 2 years, doesn't work even plugged in, and warranty is only 1 year. I bought two because they sound amazing paired, however you have to have them close to each other and manually pair them every single time, which was such a pain in the a zz we stopped doing it. That was before the one died. I now use the remaining one as a plugged in garage speaker and it works very well at that for now. Speaker sounds very good, but I won't buy again.
