Wildly overstated regular pricing. E.g. the Ibanez AF75VSB they say is normally $689 is always $499 at Sweetwater https://www.sweetwater.com/store/...e-sunburst

In the market for my 11 year old, looking at the yamaha FG 830, but this one looks interesting, any idea how this would compare to the yamaha? Looks like none in stock to try around me...Only other one he really liked was a washburn bella tono elegante, little too flashy and a bit small- well he liked the higher end martins he tried, but we are on an under 500 budget-

That yamaha is a solid option. So is this Ibanez. They both have good construction with scalloped x bracing and probaby both sound great.

This Ibanez has more exotic wood for back and sides if she/he likes the look and also has an electric preamp if you want to use it for easy gigging setup.

Otherwise, I think both ate great budget options.

Yamaha FS800 would be my choice. Look for a smaller body guitar, concert/parlor, it'll be more comfortable than a Dreadnaught, especially for kids. Makes it a better couch guitar and encourages practice. I'm 6'5" and ROCK a parlor.

Thanks, he has learned on an old fender Gemini 2, so full.size dread.would be ok, but not sure with this being 5 percent bigger

What's the deal with the AS "semi-accoustic" guitar? Looks like a regular semi hollow body guitar to me. Is this some sort of gimmick or does it have special pickups which give it more of an accoustic sound? I already own a hollowbody with dual humbuckers and to me it doesn't sound much different than a typical electric.

I also leaned on a full size dread and have several but almost always pickup my FS800, it's hands down my favorite guitar and daily driver. I couldn't agree more with @eugovector, for me, the FS series is so much more practical, comfortable, and playable than a full size dread. Everyone is different but I've yet to pickup a sub $1k guitar that even compares. I was on the fence about it's size but took the leap after playing it and never looked back.

Tried to price match at guitar center, denied stated this wasn't an authorized dealer, is that accurate?

If your kid is already used to a dreadnought size then I would stick with the Yamaha FG 800 series. They are the continuation of the legendary FG700S, considered the most solid choice for a budget dreadnought for the beginner/intermediate. The 800s have scalped bracing that are supposed to increase the resonance and improve the sound. The 830 is the fancier but significantly pricier version with rosewood sides and back instead of nato (mahogany variant). However, the sides and back are laminate (basically fancy plywood) and not so sure how much of a sonic difference it would make. Seems some say it is very noticeable though the top wood is usually considered what really make the difference in tone. Try both and see which one sounds and feels better. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.
