Should be a X6800 for this price...which is has been in the past
I used to own the X4800 and I dont think its worth this price

Additionally..Denon/Marantz sales volume is off over 25% year over year....per statements on their recent sale with the Sound United group

So, not surprisingly, there have deals for 40-50% off MSRP and I would expect to see more of those

If you missed the earlier $1189 deal on the 3800.
BB has it on sale also for $1459.

Very little difference compared to this.

As a matter of fact probably the best 11 channel processing unit especially since it has access to all 3 Dirac RCs!

I need to find the pic of the 16 15" Klipsch Subwoofers with FREE wireless kits that I bought from Frys and was flipping for a profit. Those were the good old days..Last hurrah was the Denon 4300's...paid as low as $525 for some...

Mid to high-end receivers seem to be priced at perceived value, rather than reflecting the cost of manufacturing. The jumps in price between the x3800h, x4800h, and x6800h are hundreds of dollars, yet the upgraded components can't possibly cost anywhere near that. As an example, I looked up the retail price of the two "audiophile" ESS DACs found in the x6800, but not the lower models. $4.50 for each when bought in bulk. This is why Denon and its vendors can have massive discounts and still make a profit. A 17% discount, while better than nothing, is nowhere near a slick deal.

The price difference between the x3800h and x4800h can be partially justified by the cost of labor in Japan vs Vietnam. I believe Vietnam has a higher tariff rate though.

Agreed on "perceived value". The 4800 is purely for the SINAD chasers as it's not going to amount to any audible difference from the 3800 (especially if folks start offloading to external amps)!

I might pay $200-300 more than the 3800 but definitely not nearly $1k! LOL!

That's a broad outlook but yes the perceived value of features is a significant reason for the cost.
You have brand preference that plays a significant role also.

Not to forget the misguided comparisons like the 6800!
Clearly in another class with regard to features.

I do agree this isn't a SD sale, it has been much lower.
