For the switch 2 you have to use a Micro sd express. The card will have "EX or Express label on the card

do they have to use specific microSD from Nintendo to work? Or non-specific to Nintendo would also work? Just asking since non-specific to Nintendo usually a lot cheaper?

They don't have to be Nintendo branded, but they do need to confirm to the new-ish Express specs, of which there aren't many options. I think the cheapest that will work is Walmart's Onn brand (which I think I read has slightly slower load times but is otherwise fine).

256GB is way too small. I've been using the 512GB ONN version since launch day. It's already half full. Most of my games are simple casual gamers, not complex POV shooters. The biggest game I have is Madden. I'll need a 1TB by the end of 2026 I'm sure. BTW the ONNs are a much better value. Hopefully the prices of SD Express will be reasonable by then.

ahh good to know. Damn these companies are getting more savage finding ways to make more profit lol. Thank you for the info.

Actually Express cards are just the fastest way to get games to load on anything. They are like mini nvme ssds since they can utilize the pci-e lanes that go directly to the cpu

I bought a 512gb ONN on day one, barely used it and it has already died on me.

My ONN died already too and Walmart gave me the run around on replacing it. "Call the warranty number" uh it's a Walmart product. So I call their number. They told me to take it to customer service, who told me to call the warranty number.
After several tries I got a refund but since they've gone up in price I've been left without storage. Not buying another ONN

Actually, this Nintendo branded Samsung 256gb one is the cheapest...outside of like ONN brand.

Use the Google play deal to buy a $50 game stop gift card for $40 (20% off 50 or more) and save a bit more.

I combined this with the but 2 get 1 game as well to reach free shipping (plus a switch game case for $10)

I am holding out for a 1tb at the right price point. Hoping next year I will pull the trigger.
