Avoid Aliexpress via Paypal. All, yes ALL, transactions are being processed by Paypal as cash advance! Resulting in Credit Card Issuer inflicting a cash advance transaction fee + accrual of daily interest as high as 28% APR! No way to resolve and all three companies (CC, AE & Paypal) will circle jerk the finger pointing of who is responsible with no solution. Reddit is exploding with many customers getting hit with these fees in the tune of 10's and even 100's of dollars. Avoid!!!

Paying the balance early in Pay Monthly won't violate the terms.

Remove your PayPal account from eBay payment first. Now after making a purchase, it will redirect you to PayPal, pick 'pay in 4' from there.

Thank you! This was 100% the way to do this. Removed PayPal, did a Buy it Now, the option for Pay in 4 was there, filled that out and completed the purchase, PayPal account already says points are pending.

Paying early probably disqualifies you just fyi. Pay in 4 doesn't just disappear look at your transaction directly to see if the points are pending or not.

Could end early, not sure if waiting for Chase 5% is a good idea, and since you pay bi weekly, only 2 payments in Dec.

so "Pay It Later" payments can be charged to your credit card? Not understanding how it works....

Wow, this is insane. I had an offer from Target for buying $100 worth of item from Holiday Wish List and get $15 reward. So I added $100 airbnb gift card (which also has a $10 Target gift card offer) to my wish list and bought it. I paid with PayPal Pay in 4. Immediately I got $100 airbnb gift card, $10 Target gift card, $15 Target reward and PayPal 1800 points! PayPal deducted the $10 Target Gift Card when calculating the points. But I will take it!!
Value loaded cards are specifically listed as not eligible for the 20%. Hopefully it goes through for you.

Just happened to me this month. 3 purchases. I thought that it might have something to do with the tariffs or foreign transaction fees. Thanks for the information ... answers the question of "what is going on" ... but leaves the question of "why" unanswered.

Note: The charges were a complete surprise. No extra charge appeared when I checked out and made the purchase. No extra charge appeared in my email Aliexpress order confirmation. No extra charge appeared in my email Paypal notice of transaction. No record has ever appeared (AT ALL!) on my Paypal account. The only way I found out about the charges was because I regularly check my credit card account and it showed multiple charges for "Cash Equivalent _ Transaction Fee".

According to my credit card company, each of those purchases was coded by Paypal as a cash advance and according to my credit card company's TOS, this automatically triggered a cash advance charge + interest. So, Paypal didn't give me notice, because it was my credit card company that added the charge. My credit card company added the charge because of the way the purchase was coded by Paypal. And no notice was given by them because none was required under the TOS.

My credit card company reversed the additional charges as a courtesy to me. However, I'll have to remember to avoid using Paypal on any Aliexpress purchases in the future.

Says I am pre-approved, but when trying to check out, I get ""We were unable to retrieve a report from a consumer reporting agency". Tried calling paypal a few times, but eventually get connected to short beeps. So lame.
You need to unlock your credit report on the 3 agencies.

It seems like the rewards points count sales tax so keep that in mind for the $1250 total.

My pending says 20% cash back on pay later purchases with PayPal through 12/8 12930 points

My order was $600, $650 with sales tax and they gave me 20% of the total ($650.

I unfroze equifax after the first failed attempt, but the following attempts made the day after still do not succeed. There's no reference to the other 2 credit agencies in the decline letter.

Yes, 4 charges to the chosen payment (cc, debit, bank acct) biweekly, starting the date it ships.

Chase won't work though.

I am one who took the chance and purchased $1250 worth of Home Depot gift cards directly at Home Depot over 2 orders. Both had the pending 20% bonus attached to it.
If I get it, great, if I don't, it's a store I was planning to shop at in the near future. I originally wanted to wait until Black Friday or Cyber Monday to make the purchase on the actual items but don't know if this promo would end. Im thinking quite a few of us were thinking this way.
