Avoid Aliexpress via Paypal. All, yes ALL, transactions are being processed by Paypal as cash advance! Resulting in Credit Card Issuer inflicting a cash advance transaction fee + accrual of daily interest as high as 28% APR! No way to resolve and all three companies (CC, AE & Paypal) will circle jerk the finger pointing of who is responsible with no solution. Reddit is exploding with many customers getting hit with these fees in the tune of 10's and even 100's of dollars. Avoid!!!

Paying the balance early in Pay Monthly won't violate the terms.

Remove your PayPal account from eBay payment first. Now after making a purchase, it will redirect you to PayPal, pick 'pay in 4' from there.

Thanks, we need more datapoints like this. Anyone else contacted them?
No problem. I will say it seemed like they weren't 100% initially when I said it's showing up for multiple transactions but then manager came back and told me it won't qualify for more than one $250 in points credit. I'm not going to gamble on getting it more than once but others may wish to do so.

Did you pay off the balance first? If you run out of spending power, you can only use the Monthly option.
If i pay off immediately, do I get the Pay Later (4 or monthly) again? My fear was the early pay off and that would void the 20% cb

I am in the same prerogative. my case is stupid bestbuy. so I got authorization for pay in 4 with bestbuy but did not place the order right away. i browsed away from the bestbuy page (still open) and then went back to purchase, and the payin4 disappeared as an option. the temp transaction is showing up under paypal activity. i talked to them to take that temporary off, but still cannot pick payin4. now, the agent says the 20% works with PAY MONTHLY, but I do not know if it is pulling my leg. Does anyone know if PAY MONTHLY will show the pending points or not?
Monthly will show. I was hesitant on this, and then I checked PayPal app. Go to your PayPal app, and go to the 20% promo landing page describing how it works. It will show that Pay4 and Monthly will work.

Interestingly the first purchase went fine with pay later in 4 parts. Tried a second purchase but now it's charging interest. No credit issues. Anyone having the same issue? Could it be because of the balance from the first purchase.

So this actually 2 separate promotions, no? The points for pay in 4 and 20% for pay later?

The problem is that it doesn't clarify whether "$1250 spent" is combined/max per Eligible Participant. So it could sound like you can just keep spending up to $1250 (on things that aren't explicitly excluded) and still get the $250 back per transaction without a transaction number limit. Yeah this is vague.
I think it is 25K Points/250USD per account overall. I have 2 purchases with pending points. 1st one is more than 25K because it was more than 1250USD. 2nd one is less than 1250 so are the pending points are %20 of it accordingly. Since pending reward points for the 1st purchase are more than 25K at the moment, I think PayPal do not pay attention to the transactions YET. Therefore having pending points from the 2nd purchase does not necessarily mean that I will get points for the 2nd one too. I hope I am wrong but Paypal likely will check each transaction within the promotion period and make them redeemable up to 25K points, remove rest of the reward points those exceeding 25K per transaction and 250USD per account and call it a day. The anything posted over 25K to the account will be simply ineligible by the vague terms. I hope I will be wrong and we get %20 per transaction upto 1250USD in multiple purchases.

Another question comes up. What if they determined the eligible points per transaction and then you decided to do a return? It will be a loss if your higher purchase is where all the points are allocated by them and you did a return. I dont think they will bother reallocating the points to the second purchase. That's a reason why it might be 20% for each purchase up to $1,250. Just being hopeful that is the case

If you pay the total pending balance for the next 3 payments do you still get the cash back?

Thanks for calling and relaying.
I agree it is very weirdly worded, but imo it just doesn't fundamentally make sense that Paypal would leave it uncapped on a per-member basis. The way it's worded, I could see it being at best 20% back in points up to $5000 in purchases. Which still isn't too shabby, but not sure I'm gonna risk it.

Tried making a purchase for $1,218 and did Pay in 4. Got denied. Tried it again and got denied. Saying the amount I'm requesting is too high. The fine print says up to $1,250. Makes zero sense. Anyone else?

FYI this verbiage implies $1250 max PER transaction.
