Any insights or experience on these particular units?
Seems EUFY has a great app, and an equally nice doorbell.

looks like the e42 is a newer model, i have a bunch s3s and they are great compared to the bullet style cameras. but, if you need continuous recording, don't want to deal with an app, or have reservations about privacy look elsewhere. personally i run these in areas without privacy issues, with good wifi, and use the app without issues. at this point i'm nearly a year in the chicago area and the battery is still at 100%. that being said the usefulness of the solar system depends on positioning, but they do have some nice flexibility of running a cable.

Not sure what the previous poster's reason was but here's mine.

I use Eufy's cameras indoors where they are wired up. I tried using these outdoors where I cannot run a wire and the battery dipped down a lot overnight compared to the TP-Link Tapo that charges up even when it is overcast.

Inconvenient to have two apps though

is that a standalone system or you have to have subscription to use full capabilities?

No subscription required. The homebase does things like Pet/Human detection and stores your recordings. If you want your videos in the cloud I think they have a subscription for that -but I think you get all the features without it.

I switched from a Ring doorbell a year ago and really like the Eufy. I can see my recordings, get notifications, and it recognizes family members which is really nice.

I had a ring and it did nothing without subscription. Just live view

When you say privacy, you mean the camera is not hidden?

It concerns the privacy of people in my household. I don't position them in ways where that would be compromised. As a normal discussion point on these, is the fact that another country or individual(s) could leverage the technology against you.

Can you send the video to a Synology with this setup?

FYI the HomeBase runs its own hidden SSID 2.4ghz wifi. The transmitting power is insane and you cannot change the wifi channel manually. What this means is that the HomeBase will obliterate your router or AP wifi signal. It'll also screw your Zigbee network too. A workaround is to disassemble the HomeBase and disconnect its wifi antennas -- then set your cameras to run in multi-bridge mode so that they connect to your router's wifi but will still save video to the HomeBase. This requires the HomeBase to be connected to your router directly via ethernet.

I should have read this before buying. Overcast charging is a huge deal, indeed. To compensate, I do extra battery pack. Much hassle. But the camera is extraordinary, no complaints, zilch.

What!? Eufy are the best cameras I've ever had. So simple to use. Not sure about these specific models. But I love mine (s300)!
