Two months of service needed for unlocking.
Paying for 2nd month to verizon prepaid adds another minimum $35 for base prepaid plan (if allowed to switch, YMMV).

Yes it is but it's not viable at a lot of locations. Stores outright refuse either due to not knowing the activation process or lack of knowledge. Personally I had this issue at 2 Walmart stores in MA

Having said that, if one can get that deal, that is much better and should go for that.

WM is definitely a YMMV situaltion. I bought the ST deal at a WM in my area and was in and out in 15 munutes.

If you are prepaid you can get a deal if you hop to another service and port in. That is how it works in prepaid. Most only give best service deal if you bring your own phone, so you have to do the math on it.
