As someone who has recently purchased one, here are a few notes.

- this excludes the CO2 cartridge. It will work with sodastream ones that are NOT the quick connection (sodastream has 2 versions - quick (Pink) and standard (Blue) basically)
- You really can fizz anything. Ive tried on numerous alcoholic mixed drinks to refizzing soda.
- I believe organic matter causes it to foam more. just keep in mind that certain liquids/additives will increase time before you can pour etc. I'm just talking a minute or two, its just not instant pour after fizzing.
- The 1L PET bottles have been out of stock since I bought mine and arent even on their site at the moment. They had a pretty large recall on them and seem to be struggling to get them back. It's a bit of a downer if you want a spare one. I have a bunch of the 0.5L bottles but I really prefer making drinks in the larger bottle. An odd quirk for now that will hopefully be cleared up soon.

Now back up to #1 - the CO2 cartridge.

It is ~$30 to buy a tank and ~$20 to exchange it.
If you have a bit of counterspace and enjoy being "cheap" in the long run, you'll buy a 5lb CO2 tank from a local brewing store or amazon for $80-$120 and fill it at your local brewing store for ~$20. You'll hop on over to amazon and purchase an adapter with a hose for ~$30 and use the 5lb tank instead of a tiny CO2 tank.

The out of pocket for the big tank and adapters will be around $190 with 2 fills (120+30+20+20). If you end up filling the tank twice, you'll have used the equivalent of around 12 standard exchanges or around $240 in exchange fees.

So if it's something you plan on using, it may be worth the "upgrade" and if you ever change your mind, you can use the tank for a kegerator instead.
