This is I believe the cheapest a colorsoft has been, and the 16gb supposedly doesn't have the yellow band issues that some people have had with the 32gb model.

For anyone looking, there is also a bundle below with the clear and fabric case for only 1.99 more at 171.98. The case is normally 36.99 so it seems worthwhile even as a backup case

Worth noting that if you have a kindle tied to your account, you'll see an "upgrade offer" that does NOT require you to send in your old kindle, at least if it's below a certain generation. I used that to buy a green base kindle for $64 the other day (I have a 2nd gen paperwhite I think? it replaced the kindle keyboard I loved for a decade before stepping on it). It's offering me this kindle for $135 even though I already used the offer once already and the new kindle has shipped.

Unfortunately, while a kindle user since ~2010, I don't think 16gb or even 32gb is even adequate for my needs. If I'm going with color, I'd prefer something that can natively read cbr/cbz and not have to convert and swap things off and on. I have some cbr/cbz that are 100mb+ per volume, with many volumes in the series. Maybe I could deal with a jailbroken kindle and loading cbzs from a nas, a google drive or swapping conversions in and out on my amazon account or something, but I don't want to count on that.

The only color ereader that really intrigues me is the Boox Go Color 7 because it has access to the play store and a microsd slot, so I'd have a ton of flexibility in both local cbz readers and manga repo apps. Supports a pen too (though kinda rudimentary, not for drawing). Costs twice as much though...

I'm still on the last gen Oasis. I'm having some trouble getting over losing physical buttons in an upgrade but also have an itch to upgrade. Is this good enough in other ways besides color to finally make the jump? Getting rid of my last microUSB device wouldn't hurt either.
I wish that a Kindle existed with physical buttons and a way to disable the touch screen. I mistakenly change pages all the time. That being said, I've gotten used to it, but I still miss my Oasis sometimes. This one is faster. I use dark mode a lot and I also notice that the contrast is better. The Oasis still feels like a more premium device, imo, but it's for sure showing its age.

Bought the Kindle colorsoft earlier this year. Immediately did a jailbreak. This was when models were still available that allowed a jailbreak. Installed Koreader. Was kinda happy with the experience. But the lack of buttons still bothered me. So bought the kobo libra color few months ago. I honestly think the kobo is a much better device. I originally bought the kindle thinking the colors would be much better. But honestly the difference is not really noticeable. The physical buttons make is much more convenient. And I paired it with an 8bitdo micro controller making it much more convenient.
Good feedback! I would love to get a device with physical buttons again, but the Kindle book ecosystem makes it hard, I would be losing a lot of my library (and highlights and notes.) I guess that's what I get for buying from Amazon.

For me there was a 20% trade-in discount available for a 10 year old Kindle that's registered to my account. Somehow I found it in storage and took the $34 discount

Thanks! That's an interesting observation on dark mode, I almost exclusively use my kindle at night before bed, so if that reading situation is a little better at night with dark mode, that's a potential big gain as well.

So for jailbreak, I need to find an older used model? Or has it been software-patched on all?

Some folks say if you buy one while checking -- do not pair with my account you might get the older firmware. But at this point, I doubt it. Worth a try to buy from a local store that might have inventory shipped long time ago. But that firmware update was quite some time ago. So chances remain slim.

Thanks. I have a bad habit of updating firmware.

I know what you mean. I have almost 600 books bought on kindle myself. Purchased over the last 24 yrs. But I downloaded them all a few months ago before the download deadline. It was quite laborious downloading that many. But worth it in the end. So I have them all on local calibre library. Made switching much easier for me. Going forward I'll not be buying from Amazon. Prices have been set by publishers since a long time now. So any sale on one platform is almost always across all platforms. Better to buy from other platforms that support ePub. Download a local copy and remove DRM. Side note - just last week I did the same with my 300+ audible purchases. You never know. Figured it's best to keep a local copy.

Where are you seeing an upgrade offer without sending in? I have multiple Kindles from various generations, and it's only giving me the discount if I send in the old one.

For the bundle, they are showing $150 for the Kindle and $23 for the case. My past experiences is that you can return the accessories for the charged price, $23, refunded to you if you want a cheaper/different case. Unfortunately, the 20% trade-in offer can't be applied. I just went through setting up my Echo Dot for trade-in and the $5 coupon showed, but the 20% off did not, when checking out. Tried it with the Kindle by itself and the 20% coupon showed up.
I actually had no problem adding the 20% to mine. I chose to do the trade in when it was in the cart and it just showed up. $145 out the door

I noticed that after placing my order, but really wanted the premium leather Kindle case that seems way over priced at $65. Purchased it anyway because I was using birthday money, but afterwards noticed they seem to have a lot of used "good and like new condition" for only $15-$17. It's a great case so I'm returning the new one I got and ordered a "like new" for $17. I highly recommend that one.

Thanks for the tip

It's right in the terms, which I attached. The offer specifically only mentions kindles up to the 2018 Paperwhite that are registered to your account being eligible. I guess newer kindles get refurbished and thus have various trade-in values, and older kindles (for this promo at least) just get recycled. It costs Amazon money to recycle the devices, so they understandably don't care if you don't actually send it in.

Thinking about it now, the promo may have chosen the 2010 kindle keyboard out of my account when I placed the earlier order. I don't remember if I removed it from my account or not when I threw it out.

Just a note for people. The colorsoft has a grainy texture (due to the colored cells I believe on top of the screen) compared to the paperwhite.

I have been on the paper white for a long time. I don't notice this at all. The color soft looks just as good.
