$500 is a fantastic price and a great value.
It does good work vacuuming hard surfaces.
Navigation is perfect and the app lets you subdivide rooms, customize the kind of cleaning to be done and set up scheduling easily.
The self cleaning functions for the mop pads are excellent.
The base unit is all plastic but it feels like it's put together well and it's thoughtfully engineered.
It isn't bad at maintenance mopping dust, food residue and footprints off of tile and solid surface flooring.
It's not great with long dog hair on normal rugs and carpets.
It's not going to clean up a glass of spilt milk.
NONE of these bots are maintenance free. It still requires periodic attention such as water changes for the mops, bag changes for the base and, if you have long hair animals, occasional unclogging and weekly cleaning of the brushroll.
ANYONE looking at ANY of these cleaning drones to replace an upright vacuum on thick rugs or standard or plush carpet will be disappointed. They just don't have the heft or the agitation needed to do it well. Stick with an upright for those areas.
They also aren't able to mop like a dedicated upright power mop or a regular mop and bucket. The pads are small and because of that they carry limited cleaning solution and hold limited debris. Good for maintenance runs though.
Again, this particular unit for $500, knowing what I know now, is any easy buy. Too good to pass up if you keep your expectations realistic and can live with the constraints I mentioned.
Community Reviews
The Dreame X40 Ultra stands out as a capable robot vacuum and mop for hard floors, with strong navigation, precise mapping, and useful app controls for room splits, scheduling, and cleaning modes. It also handles stairs and drop areas well, detects carpets to skip mopping, and can self empty, self fill, and dry mop pads with hot air. The main limits are weaker performance on thick rugs, long pet hair, and upright level cleaning, plus some reports of docking trouble or early failure. A solid maintenance cleaner if your floors fit its strengths.
