My wife just got this delivered yesterday and I tried them out. The sound is incredible for how tiny they are (I have the 2 gen.) Noise cancellation is space age level IMO. I put them in standing next to my air purifier and I thought the purifier broke because it went dead silent with the ANC on.TLDR; worth the $20 with ANC and wireless charging.

My wife bought these at Costco two days ago (confirmed, no AppleCare).
I felt the same way that you do, but about my AirPods Pro. Mechanical sounds just evaporate instantly. I only bought them because I found AirPod Pros at one of those Amazon closeout stores. They turned out to be fakes. I liked them so well, that I bought the real thing and now I love them.
By the way, these AirPod Pro 4 with ANC have another of my favorite features, Spatial Audio. Now with SharePlay audio on the AppleTV, my wife and I can both listen to movies with surround sound.

airpod 4 anc is slightly quieter, less bass than airpod 4 regular. i have both of them and airpod pro 2, airpod 3
