I don't know that I'd say they were packed particularly poorly versus other stores that ship HDDs, but not as good as HDDs probably should be. Last year I picked up a couple drives from them and one was DOA. Not wanting to deal with replacing one half of a bundle, I sent both back. Return was painless.

I think it's disappointing that we're still paying such high prices for large storage. We either hit an innovation plateau or we're just getting price gouged.

Well, that isn't the issue at all, it's supply & demand

Blame AI farms, they are buying pretty much everything, SSDs, HDs, all types of RAM, and and each of those are much higher now than they were 6 months ago, and it looks like 2026 will not get better, unless the AI bubble pops

so we got a extreme shortage of everything, and the price goes up

I don't see the point of these drives for consumers. Shucks and other cheap drives tend to last just as well, and the speed difference won't be that great either.

HAMR is probably our best hope for prices to come down (or go up more slowly). At the moment, I believe Seagate is the only one that has released drives using it.

There's always another deal coming. I have had more seagate drives fail than with other brands, though.

WD doesn't appear to allow stacking the 10% with either the 18tb sale price ($299) or the 24tb 2 drive bundle ($799). Anybody get these offers to work with the 10% email coupon?

Look at the reviews on the WD site and reddit -- lots of bare HDDs tossed into a box and shipped with no padding.

Not according to the terms, which I believe PayPal updated. Also, the 10% first time coupon code doesn't appear to be working for me (at least with 4x24TB drives). However, you can get $250 off if you spend $1250 or more if your PayPal account qualifies for it (though that's for any vendor).
