Just bought an Open Box - Excellent for $413 a few weeks ago. Be warned -- once in a while, Best Buy will accept a return of a device that has Activation Lock on it. They're not supposed to, but it's possible. I ended up getting a device that wouldn't let me set it up as my own (had someone else's iCloud account on it) and at first Best Buy told me I was out of luck and I had to deal with Apple. Fast forward a few days and Apple said they wouldn't help me because I wasn't the original owner, and had to go back to Best Buy. Fast forward again and after a few hours of back-and-forth with the folks at the BB store I bought it from, they admitted their mistake and let me exchange the locked open-box unit for a brand new one. I don't expect that to be a typical experience, so if it happens to you YMMV...

Tldr; be very cautious when buying Open Box from Best Buy. Sometimes you get a great deal, and sometimes you don't. If at all possible, ask the manager to let you turn the device on in the store before you pay for it.

Purchased an excellent condition last week. The box came with the original best buy instore display price tag glued on the oem box.

Im showing 1 year limited apple warranty coverage on the mini mac. Does that mean it was never powered on and registered?

Why not just return it within the window and say "I didn't like it." ? Wouldn't that be the ultimate backup policy?

Unfortunately Best Buy's system queries Apple's servers when you go to return something and tells them if it's Activation Locked. In my case, it was probably a floor model that someone logged into and the employees never checked the status on it before selling as Open Box.
