But if you think you'll want more/higher quality ui cameras than what it can support, then you'd have to look at splitting the gateway and access point(s)
Ubiquiti is very much like Apple - they have an ecosystem that plays nice with each other, so you can manage everything from the same place, versus having to manage each part of your network individually. You do pay up front for that convenience though.
Community Reviews
The UniFi Dream Router 7 is a compact all in one gateway that stands out for easy management, Wi Fi 7, and a built in PoE port, making it a strong entry into the UniFi ecosystem. It is praised for stable wired performance, simple VPN access, and room to grow with access points, cameras, and other UniFi gear without a subscription. Coverage is solid for smaller to mid sized homes, but range can trail stronger Asus or mesh setups, and larger homes may need extra wired access points. It also has a learning curve and limited camera capacity, so it fits best when you want UniFi control in a modest setup.

Can you give me some pointers
How is the parental control on this?
I don't want stupid subscription.
How is the UI and ease of use.
I have 6 years old Orbi RBR50 mesh, Orbi really stop supporting it now, no more security or version upgrade as per them.
So just wondering what kind of AP I need to purchase with this in future if I need to.
Also the AP are wired haulaway or wireless?
Can you covers around 4000sft home?
Cloud gateway fiber
Cloud gateway Max
Cloud gateway ultra
Dream router 7.
Which one to buy?
Also cloud gateway Max comes with SSD can that be used as Storage over cloud?

House has multiple cat5e drops on each floor.
Or should I just go w a newer Orbi /TP link mesh system. Thanks for advice !
For home use, they are fine. The cult of Unifi tends to be pro-sumer people who like the level of control Unifi equipment gives users, like VLANs, granular radio controls, etc.
Source: I've been in IT for 20 years, and not one of the "networking nerds" I work with actually likes Unifi/Ubiquiti. Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Ruckus and Arista all have a better reputation, and make real enterprise equipment.
But I digress. This Dream Machine is fine for home use. It's definitely a step up from most TP-Link PRC spying equipment. It's an all-in-one solution that gives you lots of remote control / DVR features, which is neat for the low cost.
Indeed, Cisco, etc, are at least as good, and often even better, but way more expensive. If you work for a large IT organization or many government organizations, certifications can serve as a means to cover your back, and perhaps that is acceptable in an environment where money is not an object and the skill level of the IT personell may vary. There is a demarcation, though at a certain company size, where this type of budgeting is not possible, and money is an object. For those, I'd say that the Ubiquity equipment is in the right spot as a product line, as well as equipment that is generally more robust than consumer equipment.

Still trying to decide if it's worth me paying $200-210 after tax and cash back on the paypal deal. Probably not worth it. I am using a literally decade old router I found in a box when my newer one broke and it's really not even bothering me using it.
I probably should just get a $100-200 asus or even that $55 one. lol.

"All the IT networking nerds at work circle jerk each other over ubiquiti saying it's the best thing ever"
However for https filtering to work you have to be able to install a custom root ca certificate on every single device you want the ads blocked. Very easy to do on Windows, Linux, Mac, plus Android and Apple phones and tablets. However most smart TVs, game consoles, and media streaming devices designed to be plugged into a TV don't allow this.
