If you need storage, the no storage model doesn't come with the tray.
The storage tray costs an extra $19 so $179 for 512Gb is pretty good deal.

'If you get into other UniFi accessories…'

UniFi is a deep, expensive hole. I started out with this exact gateway earlier this year and have expanded to multiple switches and miscellaneous hardware. Their ecosystem is amazing for those that want a little more control over their home network without having to play network engineer everyday. It's the Apple of networking. It just works and you get addicted to expansion.

That is correct, its a rabbit hole. My Unifi Gear: UDM Pro, their Cable Modem, UNAS PRO, XG 10 POE. I hate their UPS only shutdowns NVR/UNAS, so not getting that now.

Zero Unifi accessories or APs. APs next year, I hate their physical design and mounting options. I dont care for door bells or cameras.

Great device and Great price.

I bought this one over 1 year ago for full price (279 for the 512G).

I'd suggest get the 512G for $20 instead of the Non-storage version. (as this will come with the SSD tray, which i believe is like 10-20 dollar by itself.)

Why "think", go on their website, it has more than 1.
I confirmed on their website it has only 1 POE+ port. The other ports offer no POE.

Looks like the one without the storage is $159 too.
Honestly better off buying the storage version. No storage version doesn't include the SSD tray, which costs $20 separately. You're basically getting a free 512GB SSD with this one 🤷 ♂️

No POE, if you intend to get into other Unifi accesories, you will have to spend even more on POE injectors or a switch with POE. You need the Gateway Fiber at min which has 4 POE+ ports
More likely you'll need more than 4 ports anyway, if you need PoE... The fiber is great, but that's a niche use case to only need 4 ports total, and have any of them be PoE

That's right, tariff line charges are starting to hit, I started hoarding Unifi stuff on FB Marketplace before anyone notices

In the world of Unifi, no matter how low you start, you gonna end up with a UDM PRO + POE Switch, or just have 1 UDM PRO SE (has POE). All these cheaper gateway are to get you in their eco-system, you learn you entered it too low in the product stack and you get a UDM series gateway eventually. Its like that free hit of drugs on the corner of a shady street.

Debating this Max + Switch vs SE. SE just feels long in the tooth at this point.

I own one of their edge routers and a couple of wifi devices. Was thinking about this. Is it easier to manage firewall rules for sequestering internal traffic on one of these in Unifi vs the Edgerouter OS?

Wow, besides port count, this seems better than my udm pro in every respect, and $100 less than I purchased it (while on sale).
