Don't get this if you are trying to learn how to watercolor. All the reviews are Vine members (AKA they got it for free in exchange for a review). If you want a watercolor set for under $20, buy a small Winsor & Newton Cotman set or Mei Liang set (buy it on a resale site, or Amazon or use a coupon) and then a small and a large Princeton brush for like $5 after using a 40% off coupon at Michaels. Even if you bought this set, you would still have to buy paper. With deals and coupons, I was able to get myself started for less than $25 and everything was the stuff that was highly reviewed and recommended. I didn't have to upgrade anything (other than buying more paper and I upgraded from Canson XL to Arches by using coupons) and it has been a year.

Hope you start to watercolor. It has a learning curve but its fun and doesn't cost a lot after you initially get started other than having to buy paper. I didn't know that watercolors can last a long time and you don't use a lot, so you really do want to buy something decent to start. A lot in this kit you won't need or use and already have. Everyone uses regular kitchen paper towels and not the sponge they have in this kit. I am sure you have a pencil sharpener and pencils at home. The kneadable eraser people recommend isn't even the kind included in this kit. I just use the regular rubber kind I have at home and its been fine. Their brushes definitely are not going to be very good in this kit. For a palette, you can use a regular ceramic plate.
