Because the "Amazon pricing" is from third-party sellers who aren't authorized dealers. You risk getting counterfeit batteries and, even if they are genuine, not having a warranty. https://www.milwaukeetool.com/sup...d-warranty
Yes. But they only have a three-year warranty. If you're relying on the build date, then the warranty could have expired before the box is ever opened. That's why I said you "risk" not having a warranty.
Milwaukee's M12 High Output batteries stand out for compact tools that need long runtime, especially the XC5.0 and 6Ah packs. The wider base also works well as feet when setting down pistol grip tools, and two batteries can cover full days without adding much bulk. The main caution is buying through third party sellers, since counterfeit risk and warranty coverage are both concerns, even though genuine packs can still carry warranty from the build date. Free US shipping starts over $99 from WaySource, which helps if you bundle two packs.
Shoppers buying multiple batteries at once, because two units can reach free shipping and lower the per-battery total.
People relying on a verified genuine battery from an unauthorized marketplace seller, because counterfeit units and missing warranty coverage are a real risk.
The batteries are only as safe as the seller: non-authorized third-party listings can be counterfeit and may not carry a warranty. If the batteries are genuine, warranty coverage can be tied to the build date in the serial number, but Milwaukee's warranty is only three years, so coverage may already be expired when the box is opened.
Yes. Orders over $99 ship free to the US from WaySource, so buying two batteries can be the easiest way to hit the threshold. One battery can end up around $70 with shipping and taxes, while two can bring the per-battery cost down.
Two HO 5.0 batteries can cover full workdays on compact M12 tools without adding much bulk. They can be overkill for light use or if you do not run saws or tools all day.
Any Milwaukee 12V charger will work, including charger part number 48-59-2401. Slower charging can help battery life by reducing heat, and storing batteries around 35% to 50% state of charge can reduce degradation during long periods of non-use.
How is this a deal? This is Amazon pricing from what I can tell give or take a dollar

Amazon and eBay could be stolen or fake merchandise.
For example the cheapest seller of the XC5.0 battery I went to their profile and there was this review.
"Item was defective when received. Item was sent to Milwaukee Tools for warranty replacement. Item was determined by Milwaukee Tools to be a counterfeit battery."

Is it just me, or does this kinda defeat the purpose of the 12v small form factor..?
If you don't use a saw or use a tool all day it may be overkill. Two of these can get me through full days and they do not add noticeable bulk to compact tools. I started with DeWalt 18v and with battery it's over 5lbs.
