Because the "Amazon pricing" is from third-party sellers who aren't authorized dealers. You risk getting counterfeit batteries and, even if they are genuine, not having a warranty. https://www.milwaukeetool.com/sup...d-warranty
Yes. But they only have a three-year warranty. If you're relying on the build date, then the warranty could have expired before the box is ever opened. That's why I said you "risk" not having a warranty.

If they're real they have a warranty from the build date in serial number, even without rcpt

Amazon and eBay could be stolen or fake merchandise.
For example the cheapest seller of the XC5.0 battery I went to their profile and there was this review.
"Item was defective when received. Item was sent to Milwaukee Tools for warranty replacement. Item was determined by Milwaukee Tools to be a counterfeit battery."

Is it just me, or does this kinda defeat the purpose of the 12v small form factor..?
If you don't use a saw or use a tool all day it may be overkill. Two of these can get me through full days and they do not add noticeable bulk to compact tools. I started with DeWalt 18v and with battery it's over 5lbs.

Then there's theft rings which offload via reseller accounts:
