Hard to buy this resolution anymore in almost 2026 after using those 1800p OLEDs on the Zenbooks. Good choice though if you don't know what you're missing.

This is also not a 2K screen. It's basically 1080p with slightly more vertical.

Oddly, Dell seems to equip the AMD version of the 16 Plus with a crappy 1200p display, while the Intel version has a 2560x1600 as a base with the option of a Mini-LED 2.5K Touch display. Last month I picked up a 258V/32GB/1TB/Mini-LED 16 Plus from the Dell Outlet for $800. Very nice display.

And, I agree with you about OLED's...plenty of great deals on a 3K OLED-equipped laptop for under $800 if you just look.

The biggest issue with that chipset is its either 16gb of ram with a good screen or 32gb of ram but $300 more
Im looking to pull the trigger on this as its either that or the HP Omnibook , but again over $1000
So choices vs compromises

Well, screen do not matter much for me. Other than that, for ultra7 or ryzen ai7 /1TB /32gb, I could nt find any at this price point. Pls share if any

I'm not clear what the chipset has to do with the screen? In any case, this is a used laptop for $700 or a new HP Omnibook for $300 more that gets you a 16" 3K OLED 120Hz display and 2TB of SSD (and an Ultra 9 CPU which is minimally faster than an Ultra 7 so no big deal there). If cost is primary then this is a great deal for a 32GB laptop, but it seems the HP Omnibook is better equipped (and built) than the Dell for $300 more.

And if you use paypal, pay later offer, it will save another 20%. Does the new one (rather than open box) become more attractive then?

Dell's relationship with AMD is a live example of the statement "With friends like these, who needs enemies". They heavily handicap their AMD systems such a way that any Intel system even 100$ more expensive will be far well rounded and better overall value.
It is absolutely atrocious in the home laptop scene formerly called Inspiron with bad screens, sometimes 8GB soldered RAM while the Intel versions will be "expandable", low gen USB-C ports, HDMI 1.4
Since Ryzen 3xxx days in 2018 AMD fully supported HDMI 2.0 and later 3xxx series supported HDMI 2.1. But this brand new Dell Plus laptop released in 2025 that is 6 generations newer (4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x and now AI-HX) still the HDMI support is HDMI 1.4.
Please see this laptop which is a 2024 Intel, prior generation CPU wise lower performing than AI-HX belonging to the same family Dell Plus line
https://www.bestbuy.com/product/d...J3K4L6XF79
This has HDMI 2.1, TB4 on one of its USB-C ports
Since the 6xxx series AMD supported USB4 (40 Gbps) natively. Since 7xxx series it can support Thunderbolt 4 (TB4) over USB4. So 4 generation since then, this laptop still has 2 USB-C 3.2 ports only.
Heck! Even their lowly Snapdragon X laptop that sells under 400 USD has 2 USB4 ports.
The only AMD series from Dell that has some kind of Parity to their Intel competition is their "Dell Pro" series where they do adorn it with the closest features are the Intel competition that are common including 2 TB4 ports, HDMI 2.1 though on Wifi they restrict to Wi-Fi 6E rather than Wi-Fi 7 as well provide touch screen options.
So if you buy AMD laptops from Dell, they are just cheap and castrated.
