I have been using this for the last 2 years. Probably one of my most used tools. Battery lasts a fair bit.

At this price, in for another one for my office drawer upstairs so that I don't have to run downstairs everytime I need it.

I bought it two years ago for $25 on sale. I have used it few times and like it. It's useful for smaller project but definitely not a replacement for drill/impact driver.

It looks like the main difference is that the 242 comes with 7 speed settings instead of 3 and it comes with more bits.

I got one of these the last time Best Buy had them on sale and was able to use a $10 credit they sent me in an email. I know there was a $5 credit sent out recently. If that works toward this that would bring the price down further. I have used this tool many times and it's a good product. I enjoy not having to turn a screw driver as much as I used to. I would recommend this item at this price.

If the battery dies, can I still use it as a regular screwdriver or will the torque from turning it damage the motor?

I have the nice Fanntik one that come in that cylinder and I have one of these and I love this one so much more than that Fanntik. The only issue with this one really is the bits are very short and if you don't use the extension you will be trying to figure out how to get them out. Very powerful and feels nice in the hand.

Yep that's correct. Amazon has it on sale for $10 more: https://a.co/d/fH9I77O

The WX242 for $30 at Amazon is a much better deal. I've had and used both daily. The 240 fell apart after about 6 months. The button to change speed/torque(it's advertised differently across different retailers) changes neither.
The 242 has more power from a bigger battery, a true mechanical clutch, a ring light instead of two directional LEDs, and the bits it comes with are better. It's also slightly larger diameter which is more comfortable for adult hands.
