I saw one floor model priced like that a few weeks ago but looked beat up. I passed by because I bought it for $200 and returned it because it sounded like a car with a bad serpentine belt and would squeal in the middle of the night

30 days is the acceptable duration with any retailer. For Costco, 90 days is the acceptable duration. Do you know why they reduced it from lifetime? Because of people like you. Sometimes people would use a laptop for 2-3 years and then return it for free and get the next gen.

It doesn't matter how many trips you took with your bag. Do you think it's acceptable if someone only uses it for 1 trip in say 6 years and then tries to return it? No. If your bag is broken, take it up with the manufacturer or the airline.

Great deal for $99. Have one of these and as long as you clean it with vinegar once a month it will work just fine... And it's Costco so if it dies you just take it back...

No stock. Oh well, go back to using ice trays and no deep leaning needed lol.

I bought this and returned it, it's a fine ice maker but it's not the kind of ice maker that makes the "good ice" with the slightly slushy texture like the Opal does. The ice is denser and more like a crushed ice. I would say this is a good ice maker for a third of the price compared to the Opal if you need an ice maker but if you want premium ice the GE Opal ice is king.

And what do you think the acceptance duration is mr. Holier than now. For a bag that's probably been used for 5-6 trips in that span? Do enlighten me.

I had this ice maker for a couple months and returned it. There was a considerable amount of mold built up inside of it, even using RO water that's been treated with a UV light. This is how it works. It makes little ice nuggets which fall into a plastic tray. The plastic tray has holes to allow water to seep through. The ice machine isn't cold enough to keep the ice frozen, so the ice just melts and the water recirculates back up to the top to make more ice. Ice is made fast, but the machine is VERY loud. Loud to the point where unless you like white noise, you are not falling asleep on the couch if your living room is anywhere near the kitchen.

Pros
- ice is made fast
- I like the shape of the little ice nuggets

Cons
- mold build up
- LOUD

Keeps it cold... keeps it ice.
No, it doesn't. The ice compartment is not cooled beyond the introduction of ice, so when full it will start melting.

I had a similar (but different) unit a couple years ago. For us, the trick was to give it a good stir about 5m after putting it in the freezer to break it up again once it's no longer so wet. You'll have to feel out the ~5m delay to determine if your freezer/ice needs 3m or 7m, but that made a world of difference in storing the ice for us. It'll of course never be as "soft and crunchy", since it's only that way because it's only frozen at 31.9 degrees when you crunch on it - less crunchy when it drops to the ~5 degrees that your freezer is set to.
What we do is put the ice in a normal old school ice tray, and put it in the freezer for an hour or so, to let the cubes harden up and not stick to each other. Then we dump them in a bucket and put the next batch trays. We do this with our cube ice maker and it works well. Have never done a nugget style one, guessing if you put a few in each tray's compartment, they would freeze together but would probably break apart fairly easily.

Been wanting one of these. $100 seems like a good price. But if it only lasts 13 months, I won't be happy. Sounds like I can return it to Costco if that happens.

This is actually insane. You need to take a long look in the mirror. It's ridiculous that an adult would even think that this was ok.

I bought it and gave it away after about a year.

In short: it makes amazing ice!!! Great for a single person or a small family. It makes ice relatively quickly and the noise was never loud enough where it was an issue for me but that may be a personal thing.

The sole reason why we stopped using it was the maintenance. The manual recommends draining and cleaning the machine with vinegar daily, and also using bleach to clean every so often (like weekly). It just wasn't realistic for us but it makes a ton of sense.

When we didn't do it, you'd do areas of algae build up and little gross spots. It's like any ice machine though TBH. Great value for $100 but there are some expectations with maintenance for sure

Cleaning these simply with vinegar is definitely not enough. I have an Opal and it has to be opened up every few months. using r.o. water. Anyone with one that doesn't believe me, take the back and top off and open the lid on the reservoir. You'll never just run vinegar through it again.
Please clarify what is R O water? And how should I be cleaning this? I've had one for over a year.
