This Legion Pro 7i pairs an RTX 5080 with 64 GB of RAM for a high-end gaming laptop that should stay near the top tier for a while. The big draw is strong plugged-in performance, with the 9955HX3D configuration repeatedly framed as the faster CPU choice over Intel, and the 64 GB memory option seen as especially compelling at this price. The main cautions are that laptop 5080 performance is far below desktop expectations, battery life can favor the Intel 275HX on the go, and Antonline returns may carry a steep restock fee. It looks best for a mostly plugged-in setup.

  • The RTX 5080 laptop graphics can stay near top-end performance for a couple of years.

    zen313

  • The Legion Pro 7 Pro 9955X3D configuration can be a straightforward CPU upgrade over the Core Ultra 9.

    Notadealio

  • The 275HX option can deliver much better battery life on lighter to medium tasks when running on battery.

    veyvey

  • The checkout process supports adding a gift card or discount code under other payment options.

    jrtait

  • The laptop can struggle to run Fortnite in 4K at 120 fps.

    Huu26

  • Laptop GPUs with the same name as desktop GPUs can be far less powerful than expected.

    TPMJB

  • Antonline returns can involve a roughly 30% restock fee, which increases return risk.

    protocol7

  • A 3rd-party reseller deal can include only 1TB storage at $2400, which reduces value.

You do know that laptop versions of graphics cards are nowhere near as powerful as desktop versions that have *the same exact name*, right?

Anyone who gets a laptop to try gaming at highest specs is going to be sorely disappointed. It is a giant waste of money. This would be moderately okay to game on at low-to-med specs if traveling.

Jarod's tech has tested the chips before.9955hx3d is faster plugged in but the 275hx is faster when not plugged in.Battery life on the 275hx is about double the 9955hx3d when running lighter- medium tasks but they didn't test under full load.It makes sense though bc the 275hx is on 3nm vs 9955hx3d on a 4nm processAlso the igpu in the 275hx is a good bit better so if you are just running games on the igpu you can save a lot of battery life.So for someone who is more mobile the 275hx makes a lot more sense but for the average user who probably always has somewhere to plug in the 9955hx3d will pretty much always be better.
All true. However, AMD allows more granular per-core control via Ryzen Master, so it can be under volted to sip power on battery more efficiently than the Intel despite being on the older 4nm process.

The 275hx can also be tuned :/ in fact intel generally overlocks/uv better.

Additionally it is impossible to fix the high idle power draw of ryzen chips due to their design although and is working on that with zen 6

this is only relevant when comparing the hx 370 to the 285h bc in this case those chips can't be tuned wheras pretty much all amd cpus are fully unlocked.

Great deal, cheaper than buying separate 64GB of RAM.

You do realize that Laptops are more portable than desktops.... Ever seen the people on Trains and Airplanes trying to set up their desktops, and monitors and what not. Never enough plugs or room.. and that Vacant look you get when you ask the person next to you to hold the curved gaming monitor. Anyone trying to Travel with a desktop is going to be moderately okay with no graphics when they run out of room. ....

A "5080" that is really a 3060 is not going to run BL4 very well at all. If you get 30fps at 240P you'd be lucky. The game is incredibly poorly optimized.

The use-case for those playing on a train or an airplane is not nearly as high as you think. If I had a nickel for the amount of times I've run into someone thinking they're buying a desktop replacement, I'd be able to buy this laptop. You'll spend half the price on a better-performing desktop.

I can only speak for myself, but iwould probably just go for whichever one was faster and more reliable. I don't buy Gaming Laptops for portability, its more a lack of living space until we finish building our home. We are living in one of our apartments until we are done. and its nice to just be able to game at the coffee table, kitchen table, bedroom desk or whatever. My ROG G15 GA503.QR stays plugged in all the time. Other than a few hospital stays, it's always plugged in. Even then it was plugged in at my room once admitted.
Ever think about portable gpu?

I'm gaming in 4k in ultra settings 80-85 fps on a 4090 laptop.

4K in rocket league heavily relying on DLSS does not count.

in your obvious abundance of spare time do you also peruse the "Pre-Built Gaming Desktop" sites (ie reddit, SD, PCMaster Race) and enlighten them that if they use PC Part Picker and source the parts, that they can build a desktop for cheaper than most of the offerings on pre-built retailers and such? Its right up there with the"Wisdom" of announcing that the laptop 5080 isn't as strong as the desktop 5080.... You seem to be of idea that you carry some special knowledge that 95% of people don't already know... Most people who would purchase a gaming laptop are aware, as are most people who would source a high end pre-built of the price discrepancy between a prebuilt and home built. But thank you for your enlightenment.

Why would I peruse pre-built desktops? It takes all of an hour to build your own.

The 5080 desktop version runs at around 40 fps at 1440p without DLSS on Borderlands 4. So since this esoteric, wizard knowledge of "5080 laptop is a pile of garbage compared to the desktop version", one can safely deduce that, to play BL4 on this laptop, even though it claims to have a 5080, will require you to lower it to potato settings.

tl;dr you want people to click your link for your imaginary e-points to buy a garbage product that is deceptively labeled as being able to do more than it actually can. What a sad existence!
