The Pro-Mod San Dimas Bass PJ IV is equipped with a super-thin bolt-on maple Charvel speed neck, crafted in the original style. Its caramelized treatment, graphite reinforcement, and heel-mount truss rod wheel make adjustments easy and efficient. The 12"-16" compound radius caramelized maple fingerboard gradually flattens from nut to heel, offering fast, smooth playing. With rolled edges, 20 jumbo frets, and Luminlay side dots, this bass guitar ensures precision and comfort.
Experience the powerful sound of DiMarzio pickups, featuring a Model J at the bridge for a well-rounded punch and a Model P in the middle for a warm, fat tone with a mid-range growl when pushed. The versatile electronics include a three-band active EQ, pickup blend control, and a master volume control with a push/pull selector. This unique feature eliminates the risk of losing sound due to a dead battery, as a quick pull on the volume knob bypasses the EQ's active circuit and regains sound from the bass without the use of battery power.
The Pro-Mod San Dimas Bass PJ IV is also equipped with a Charvel HiMass bridge, Graph Tech TUSQ XL nut, and open-gear tuners, combining for stellar tuning stability with improved note punch and sustain. This 4-string bass guitar is available in electrifying Platinum Pearl finish, complemented by chrome hardware, cream pickup covers, and a licensed Fender Precision Bass headstock shape.

$50 more than the black model that was recently on sale. This matches the same price as the last sale on the white color a few months ago.

Anyone have any experience with this bass? Been looking for a PJ with a thin neck and this price seems solid. Apparently made in Fender's Ensenada factory so $550 for essentially a Mexican Fender with this config is pretty good

I've got both the black in a five string and a white in a four string.

It's a mixed bag that is totally worth it if you undertand why and think it is still worth it.

The neck is incredible. It feels perfect and is a shreddy modern neck on an old school bass. The neck is worth hundreds of dollars just for being perfect for a thin modern neck and perfectly satin finished that feels amazing. Glowing side markers are not huge thing to me, but they are welcomed.

The bass has shoddy quality. I've had a few. My black came alright. It just wasn't shielded well. Actually maybe not at all. There is no shielding paint. It wasn't conductive when tested with a multimeter. Simple fix with some copper tape.

White one I got came with issues. The frets weren't level. Sent it back. Got a second one from Adorama. Of course not shielded because they don't. But, now the nut is over cut on a string. It was under warranty, so Fender repaired it at a music store near me. I got $50 back bringing me in at $450.

The preamp comes turned up to loud. You have to go to the preamp and turn the little potentiometer screw all the way down. Lile that the preamp is okay. It can sound amazing, but the controls are super aensitive as they picked frequencies that aren't super great. When set correctly, the preamp does sound great though. But, I have some basses where the preamp is amazing. The controls just work and are easy to switch even on a dark stage. On the Charvel, it's more touchy, but still capable.

So, for $450-550 you get amazing neck. P bass body (ideal to me), a kickass paint job (the pearl glitter is better in person, jazz width neck (ideal to me), an amazing better than Ibanez thin neck (not necessarily thinner but better feeling profile to me), Fender Hi Mass bridge. Fender tuners. A very nice set of Dimarzios. Active/passive.

I'll post a pic in a second with a white strap. It's pimp. I switched the preamp to a Nordstrand 3 band clone. It's now my main PJ bass for vintage sounds next to the Charvel 5 string (that has a Fender P pickup and a whole different Dimarzio J pickup) a four string LTD AP-4 and a five string Jacksonbacker CBXNT.

I have 2. Really enjoy them obviously. Very well built, thought out, etc. Highly recommend. Won't beat the price for anything comparable in sound, design, feel, construction. There was reference to loud noise but with the newer model, the shielding or something was improved to the point where I don't perceive any issue.

I have this exact model. There is nothing about this bass that I don't like. It was set up perfectly out of the box. The electronics are good. The pickups are great, but I suspect that the preamp is generic. That doesn't mean that it's bad. I'm fine with it. This has become my main bass. I've been playing bass for about 40 years.

I got a blue one with the white pickups. I had to shield it with copper tape. After that I totally love it, the neck and frets on mine have been amazing.
But I'm a relatively new bass player, so I'm not so sure about the preamp. I do get sounds I enjoy out of it, but have been looking into a new preamp. When you say you got a Nordstrand 3 band clone, do you have a link? I see there are off-brand pickups but it's a of effort to put into swapping a pre-amp that you don't know if it's going to be good or not.

I like the blue a lot. I really wanted the green, but at $850 all in for the four and five string, im happy.

I bought the preamp off eBay from a guy that just made clones for himself and sold it.

The stock preamp can sound very good. The setting are just very touchy to quickly dial in. To me, one of the hallmarks of an excellent active EQ is sounding good in most settings. My Spector preamp sound good in almost any setting. My LTD Surveyor-4 sounds great everywhere. The Charvel is capable of very bad sounds if tuned incorrectly. I find it best to make small adjustments on it.

Thanks! Do you have a link please, for the preamp? I can't find it.
