Prices for SSDs are high and are rumored to go up next year, just like RAM pricing has. Then again, the AI bubble might burst.

Wow. This drive is a new offering from Samsung. Don't think if an average consumer can really take the advantage of Gen5 nvme but certainly offers a generous amount of storage. Gen 4 was around 580 a month ago for 8tb. Given next year manufacturing capacity is sold out, I'd recommend buy whatever you can this TG/BF deal.

Thanks, in for one. This was an expensive way to start my PCIe 5.0 storage collection, but < $100/TB is probably as good as we are going to get in the near future for a top capacity high end drive.

This is a high end top capacity PCIe 5.0 drive with a NAND shortage looming. It probably won't lose much value unless WD wants to have a price war with their new 8TB SN8100 which seems unlikely. We also aren't going to see > 8TB capacities on the consumer side soon.

there is absolutely no supply - the big companies are fighting for it. The AI bubble may burst - but it will be 3 years (no joke) until prices come down. Right now, there are NO manufacturers looking to increase supply, other than perhaps 1 fab for Samsung. The companies that make the lithography equipment are getting no orders right now.

Yup, they all know the bubble is going to burst soon and they dont want to get caught with their pants down with a ton of capital invested and nothing to use it for.

So they will max out what they have and know is sustainable after the bubble bursts, but that's it. Since they all do it, no risk of loosing any market share or orders to other companies due to lead time or pricing, and no other risks either. From a business perspective it's genius, it just sucks as a regular consumer that has no leverage (even as a whole, because the AI industry is so large) and no alternative because they are all making the same choice.

all of 2026 is sold out already (HBM), so the bubble won't burst next year (and I have seen the pricing projections). Micron is going to build 3 fabs near Syracuse, NY - but they won't break ground until 2027 now.

"Micron said earlier this year that the first fabrication plant, or fab, was scheduled to open in mid-2028. The opening has now been moved back to late 2030. Completion of the second fab has been pushed back from late 2030 to late 2033,"
