Dollar General's gift card promo stands out for discounted restaurant and gaming cards, including Popeyes, IHOP, Xbox, Lowe's, and sometimes Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops. The deal is tied to a digital coupon in the Dollar General app, and some locations also stack with credit card cash back or military discounts for deeper savings. Availability and payment rules vary by store, with some locations cash only or missing the offer entirely. Popeyes cards also have awkward app payment limits, so keeping the balance topped up helps.

  • The Dollar General offer can stack with other promotions to reach about 25% off total.

    JodouKast

  • Wells Fargo credit offers can add 10% back on Dollar General gift card purchases up to $5.

    ladyreese

  • Popeye's gift card balances in the app can be reloaded like a "bucket," including with another gift card.

    kensteele

  • Xbox gift cards may qualify for additional stacking using a Target Redcard for extra percentage off.

  • Dollar General gift card deals can vary by location, including cases where the offer is not available in-store.

    Azndragon89Atnguy10

  • Dollar General locations may require cash for gift card purchases, limiting credit card use.

    Timlessem3monkey

  • Popeye's app may restrict orders to a single payment method, forcing reloads when the gift card balance is short.

    gathermewoolshagenit

  • A digital coupon may be required for the gift cards to ring up at the sale price.

Can you add GC's to the Popeye's app?
yes.....but the problem is that when you get down to a few cents or a $1 or $2 you cannot add a second payment method on the app to use the rest of the gift card.

So it just declines the charge if there isn't enough to cover the purchase even if you have a credit card backup?

yeah. I don't know if declines is the correct term but say you have $1.39 left on your gift card that is stored in your account and you want to make a $2 purchase, you cannot add another payment in the app to cover the difference. It's weird because at a place say like Jersey Mike's when the same thing happens, you can add a second payment option during checkout to cover the difference but not at Popeyes.

sadly a lot of dollar general only allow cash for gift card purchases
Actually had a discussion about it with the clerk last year when I was buying a bunch of Lowe's gift cards to buy a fridge. Apparently thanks to the way the system works at Dollar General for gift cards typically the local store foots the bill for the gift cards if fraud occurs and the gift card provider can't void the cards because of X Y or Z reason. So because of that a lot of the stores have opted to go cash only so that they don't have to deal with the losses which negatively impacts the store's ranking when corporate is looking to close stores.

Has anyone been able to get the Cabelas gift cards for 15% off. My store told me they were not on sale when I went there this morning. I called two other stores and they also told me they were not on sale.

It's a digital coupon. Doesn't ring up at the sale price otherwise.

You need the digital coupon, which I assume means creating a Dollar General account.

I have been running into this since I picked up discounted Popeye's gift cards last Black Friday. Popeye's app forces you to use only 1 payment type. So if you have a gift card balance but not enough to cover your order, you have to reload that gift card to cover the purchase. You can't use the gift card balance plus a credit card to pay for an order. It is pretty adsurd actually. It has to be the only app in the world that processes payments in this manner.

Starbucks app does too. It's a scam to keep you reloading

Add Burger King to the list. Same thing there, only one payment method at a time. I still can't figure out why McDonald's won't even let us use gift cards at all in the app!

The Xbox GC can be used to purchase an Xbox correct? And I assume you have to purchase it through Microsoft's website to use those GCs?

Which of the restaurant allows me to deposit those physical cards to my online/app wallet or account? I don't need to worry if I misplace the card.
