So it just declines the charge if there isn't enough to cover the purchase even if you have a credit card backup?

yeah. I don't know if declines is the correct term but say you have $1.39 left on your gift card that is stored in your account and you want to make a $2 purchase, you cannot add another payment in the app to cover the difference. It's weird because at a place say like Jersey Mike's when the same thing happens, you can add a second payment option during checkout to cover the difference but not at Popeyes.

Actually had a discussion about it with the clerk last year when I was buying a bunch of Lowe's gift cards to buy a fridge. Apparently thanks to the way the system works at Dollar General for gift cards typically the local store foots the bill for the gift cards if fraud occurs and the gift card provider can't void the cards because of X Y or Z reason. So because of that a lot of the stores have opted to go cash only so that they don't have to deal with the losses which negatively impacts the store's ranking when corporate is looking to close stores.

Has anyone been able to get the Cabelas gift cards for 15% off. My store told me they were not on sale when I went there this morning. I called two other stores and they also told me they were not on sale.

You need the digital coupon, which I assume means creating a Dollar General account.

I have been running into this since I picked up discounted Popeye's gift cards last Black Friday. Popeye's app forces you to use only 1 payment type. So if you have a gift card balance but not enough to cover your order, you have to reload that gift card to cover the purchase. You can't use the gift card balance plus a credit card to pay for an order. It is pretty adsurd actually. It has to be the only app in the world that processes payments in this manner.

Add Burger King to the list. Same thing there, only one payment method at a time. I still can't figure out why McDonald's won't even let us use gift cards at all in the app!
