These doctors and insurance companies are a scam!

It's the insurance companies and the retailers. The doctors get almost nothing for reading/interpreting these tests.

ResMed branded ones are expensive, They come in a 6 pack for about $60 They are consumable and last 30 days each..

I use third-party ones like this that I get about a quarter of that price. They work fine.

False, the sleep lab charged over $1k and then the sleep expert/doctor charge another $300...insurnace only cover part of that cost. Then have to pay almost $1k for the cpap machine

There's no set amount of weight guaranteed to grant you free from obstructive sleep apnea. A lot depends on your upper airway anatomy, and as we age, we're almost guaranteed to get OSA in some form. Learn to live with CPAP is my recommendation! It's really a very benign therapy that will change your life for the better.

You shouldn't comment if you have no idea what you're talking about. CPAP or constant positive airway pressure needs a prescription so you're not getting too much pressure which can cause central sleep apnea. CPAP isn't inflating your lungs, but rather acting as a stint to keep your upper airway open. Most machines like this one can be set to APAP or auto pap or CPAP. Auto pap will automatically give you the amount of pressure needed not a set pressure like CPAP. So theoretically if one knows they have obstructive sleep apnea, they could treat themselves with APAP.

Interesting deal. It's been around $575 with other retailers, first time I've seen it as low as this.

I have had success in treating my sleep apnea with this unit. I was thinking about a travel unit, but most of them are loud. Was leaning towards the Breas Z2, but that has been discontinued now.

The more I look at it, the more I think I'd rather just have another Airsense 11 as a backup. I've traveled with this several times now and it's never been a big deal. The bulk of traveling with a CPAP is the tubing and everything. If you get the end cap to replace the humidifier, it's barely bigger than the Air Mini. Which even on discount is usually around $700. And loud.

Plus one benefit of having another of the same unit, is that all the parts will work. So you don't have to pay for special masks or tubing like with the Air Mini, as you already have plenty from your DME provider.

Insurance often covers a unit like this, once every 5 years. If you have a single unit and it breaks, you have to send to Resmed and it can take 1-2 months to repair and return. During that time, you have no CPAP. So many will buy travel units, or an additional unit like this, as a backup.

Yep, this. My doctor did refer me to a weight clinic, and any weight loss can improve sleep apnea, which means you might get by with lower pressure. But usually only mild cases (6-10 AHI) are actually reversed with weight loss alone.
