I'm in Illinois. Can I leave them in pot right now and plant in spring? Will it survive cold temperatures in pot? Want to build privacy fence using trees.

I've never found that these held up to winter well, they tend to die on one side.

Now through Dec is the best time to plant (or transplanr) trees. Get them into the ground with some water & the roots have time to grow & establish themselves through winter/spring. They are, thetefore, more prepared to withstand the summer heat & drier soil periods.

I bought 4 last year - Nebraska, everyone died on the north side the bushes - that's where most of our winds come from. Ended taking them out as they looked terrible.

Love this for a tiny NYC apartment-sized Christmas tree.

Adding to the other 2 replies, in a word, NO!

Best is to plant in a location protected from the wind, either where they go or at least heeled in. Otherwise place indoors in an unheated space with sunlight and water infrequently.

They may survive a mild winter kept outside in the pots, but maybe not. Death is almost certain if hit by severe cold. (Don't want to throw $ away.)
