HBO Max Basic with Ads is showing a Black Friday style $2.99 per month offer for 12 months, and it is strongest for lapsed or eligible accounts that can access alternative billing. The deal often appears inside the app or under Change Your Plan, with Apple, Amazon, Roku, Fire TV, and some browser flows all surfacing it for different accounts. The main catch is that eligibility is inconsistent by device and billing path, and the ads tier does not include live sports or 4K. Ad load is real, though some playback is front loaded or lighter on older titles, making this a low cost way to keep Max if ads are acceptable.

  • The $2.99 alternative billing option is not consistently visible across platforms, and it may be missing on Android or in a PC browser.

  • Basic with Ads can include frequent ad breaks that may be front-loaded and later split across the program.

  • The promo can fail during verification or billing, including cases where payment shows $10.99 instead of $2.99 or HBO cannot verify a subscription through Amazon.

  • Some sports coverage is not included in Basic with Ads, and certain TNT/TBS/TruTV basketball games may require a higher tier.

We have a number of streaming devices and found that the $2.99 Black Friday offer was available when checking via an Amazon Fire Stick (not previously subscribed via Amazon), but Onn sticks and Android apps did not have the offer. If you have multiple devices and want this offer, check each one as it may not be shown on all of them. Also looks to be available going directly to the HBO Max website.

If only there was a Black Friday deal on the ad-free and/or Ad-Free bundle.

Easy. Just logged in to previously subscribed account email on computer/Chrome browser after clicking 'get offer' and option was there. Commercials suck but it's $3 so can't complain.

Existing sub with plan ending 6/22/26. Says my plan will change to $2.99/mo on 6/22/26. So I'll get through 6/21/27 at the $2.99/mo?

Showed up in the app on an expired account with a Pixel. Got the Disney/Hulu for $4.99 too, looks like that is the deal for this year, unfortunately.

So when I first checked this yesterday, it wasn't available to me. But I checked again this morning and the offer appeared now. So if you're interested, keep checking and maybe it'll pop up eventually?

I have my HBO Max billing through DirecTV. Do I need to cancel HBO first through DirecTV website and then see the plan options?
Just following up on my query. Is my only option to sign up with a new/different email address and then end the one I have with DirecTV?

If your billing date isn't within the next few days, so that when you cancel it'll actually cancel within the time window for the Black Friday offer?

I'm going to say, yes. Creating a new email is your only option.

If anyone wants to subscribe via Google Play & it's not popping up in the app for you?

When I went to the website in a browser, it showed the deal. I went back to the app and it somehow showed up. I cannot confirm nor deny going to the website while logged into the same account that I wanted to subscribe via Google Play had any effect.

I have thus subscribed once again using Google rewards $, one of the only things I ever spend it on.

I am curious as wellm They are not the worse for ads (at least not yet) but would still love to be able to upgrade later?
It seems you're unable to upgrade to add free with this promo. People are reporting getting a "you are unable to change your plan at this time" message but it's unclear if it's because of Apple billing.

I'm a current subscriber. I just went to the cancellation link in the android app, which essentially takes you to the website. The offer appeared there after clicking the "View Plans" button under the bold "Is it about the price" question.
