I have two phones (work and personal). Android phone: no alternative billing and cheapest is 10.99/mo. iPhone: alternative billing with 2.99/mo deal. Same lapsed account.

Community Reviews

HBO Max Basic with Ads is showing a Black Friday style $2.99 per month offer for 12 months, and it is strongest for lapsed or eligible accounts that can access alternative billing. The deal often appears inside the app or under Change Your Plan, with Apple, Amazon, Roku, Fire TV, and some browser flows all surfacing it for different accounts. The main catch is that eligibility is inconsistent by device and billing path, and the ads tier does not include live sports or 4K. Ad load is real, though some playback is front loaded or lighter on older titles, making this a low cost way to keep Max if ads are acceptable.

I have an annual plan that expires Jul 2026. According to offer the $3 BF offer will start at the end of my current plan. Anyone else can confirm?
Yes, my annual basic also ends in July 2026 so I went to change subscription, then change to monthly & it's shows $2.99/month starting after my annual expires. Make sure u click on confirm change.

I wasn't seeing the discount on android nor iphone last night but today the discount appeared. I'm seeing it offered after clicking on the Subscribe Now button without having to sign in, so it's not just targeted at former or existing customers.

It's too bad they don't offer a discount on premium as I'd be willing to pay a little more for 4k. I previously had Max at 4k but downgraded to 1080, the wow factor with watching stuff on my OLED wasn't the same after the downgrade.

Yes. HBO ads are insufferable. More ads than network TV on Hulu.
Seems like this year the only deals are on the shitty monthly ads plans for all services

They used to offer discounts on the annual plans, now nothing

If only this was also offered through Hulu as an add-on, that would've been amazing

Also curious about this. Really do NOT want ads
Can anyone confirm this? Is there a way to get this deal and then upgrade to the no ads and just pay the difference?

Can someone please try to sign on thru Roku app on tv afterwards … I don't want it to be like Amazon having to go thru firestick …
You don't need a Firestick. You can subscribe thru Prime Video. They have the same offer and you can use Roku to watch with Prime Video or the app on your phone.

So far it sounds like this may be (at least for now) an Apple-only promotion. We have the other thread for Amazon, I think this might be device-specific as well. Maybe it'll roll out to everybody some time this week.
I checked around 3:30pm today and had it in the Android app

I was able to do this right through my PC browser and was offered the $2.99 plan. My previous plan expired in August.

I just put on Superman via the HBO app. There was three ad breaks within the first hour or so. It's pretty. And the movie itself is terrible, so I'm glad I only spent $3 to figure that out. I'm going to watch an episode Task and The Sopranos later on and I'll report back.
I couldn't imagine watching Sopranos with ad breaks. HBO Max is the one service I need with no ads and in 4K. The rest of the services I'll deal with ads if the discount is good enough.

Saw this deal. Went to cancel my current subscription. The retention offer was 50% off for 3 months. Got pissed and went through with the cancellation.

Went back to resume my service as I didn't really want to cancel.

Got the $2.99 for 12 months promo!!!
