Disc performance, not on the same level.Keep in mind PS5 does not support DV on Disc. You should be comparing it to the 420. If you're interested in games, make sense to go with a game console since dedicated players do not play games.

SAME PRICE AT BEST BUY! Try to support Brick & Mortar stores when possible. I'm sure Amazon has it at this price because Best Buy did and Amazon leached onto the price to take away sales and kill the competition. Without competition the prices wouldn't ever be lower. This is a great player and I really enjoy not having to check DV setting each time I put in a disc like I do on the Sony 700. However, I had the new Mission Impossible 4K glitch out like crazy on the Panasonic and none at all on the Sony. Some people say the Panasonic sometimes has issues playing Paramount 4K discs for what it's worth. I rarely experience problems on either player though, but wanted to share that experience.

Future proofing is more important to many. And Dolby Vision is a part of the current and future. Not having Dolby Vision is a huge deterrent for me. I have a DV TV now. But even if I didn't, my next one likely would.
I guess that depends on how often you replace your TV! For me, every 5 years or so unless some ridiculous deal comes along that I can't resist.
I just bought a QLED TV and the cheapest Panasonic 4K player because I don't need DV (TV does HDR10+) and upscaling is not important as I only play 4K discs. So I spent <$100 for their very basic (almost too basic) 4K player.

Sony has a UBPX700U on sale at BB for $220 right now, does DV but not upscaling.

I understand but at what cost? It a fair question as we are here with different goals and priorities obviously. I really want this but not at the $400 price point. $350 is rather fair...or am I being too unrealistic. Idk u tel me lol

If you have a nice collection of 4k blu rays getting an extra or two of these is not a bad idea.

I bought one of these during last year's Black Friday sales and it is phenomenal. This is the last of the great UHD players that is somewhat affordable. Sony has discontinued the X800-M2 and Magnetars are very expensive and don't offer any improvements in image over this Panasonic.
Well not sure I would word it that way.
Magnetar does offer better PQ & AQ performance(& more features).
People may not find its worth the higher price.

This model is 6 years old.
To be fair other than Sony coming out with a stripped down version of the 700.
There hasn't been a new one, within the affordable range.

That's probably because there hasn't been anything new in all that time, look at Sony.

It is not at least to me. It is in a living room, not a bedroom but I don't hear it outside of load and startup

That's a whole other topic.

If DV is a top feature for future proofing.
One may want to gamble on the Sony 700, which is on sale right now for $220(been lower).
It offers more features than this does also.
