Would this be a good starting point into MTG? Neither I or my daughter know anything about Magic, but she loves D&D, Final Fantasy (especially 6), fantasy artwork, etc... and I'm thinking this might be a good introduction for her.

My 11-year-old son and I had built two decks from scratch. I thought that they were very good decks. We got this deck and played it over the weekend and it totally destroyed the decks that we had built. I guess that could be good or bad depending on what you are going for. It is certainly good enough to compete casually at shops.

Yes,though you might consider getting this and a starter set or beginner set that walk through the rules of play a bit more thoroughly.

MTG has much longer lore, structure, and a wide variety of cards allowing for people who actually want to play for fun can choose from millions of cheap old cards with a bunch of functionality. The addition of these themed decks is neat and all, but it really sucks to be playing when someone just whips out goky or spiderman. It really breaks the game

That's what they are counting on. Unfortunately, it is one of the less effective decks out of the box but can be competitive in a casual environment with a few cheap upgrades.
