This Straight Talk iPhone 13 deal stands out as a low-cost way to get an older but still capable iPhone with a SIM card slot, strong cameras, MagSafe, and solid battery life. The A15 chip keeps it close to the iPhone 14 and not far behind the iPhone 15 for everyday use, and the size and 0.5x lens make it appealing for travel or filming. The main drawback is age, since iOS support is shorter and newer updates can slow it down or drain battery. Unlocking also takes patience, with reports of 60 day service requirements and occasional rebranding or activation hassles.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes, many reports say it can be rebranded to TracFone through chat or support, then activated on a low-cost TracFone prepaid plan to reach unlock eligibility. Some reps refuse at first, so trying another rep or using online chat can matter.

  • It still has features some newer budget iPhones lack, including a physical SIM tray, MagSafe, and a 4GB RAM iPhone 13 platform that many consider close to iPhone 14/15 performance. The tradeoff is older hardware and shorter remaining iOS support than newer models like the 16e.

  • Yes, it is intended to unlock after 60 days of paid service, and several reports say it unlocks automatically on day 60 with no request required. If the phone still shows SIM locked, inserting a different carrier SIM can trigger the status update.

  • It is a solid older iPhone, but it is already near the end of its support window compared with newer models. Battery life is reported as decent, while newer iPhones like the 16e are described as having better battery life and longer iOS support.

  • Yes, it can be used on Wi‑Fi without activating a SIM or data plan. That makes it usable as a Wi‑Fi-only device while you wait to unlock it or decide on service.

Keep in mind, if you get the $149.00 Straight Talk iPhone 13, you can immediately call them and have it re-branded to Tracfone and buy the $15.00 plan for two months to get it unlocked.

For those who have had Tracfone/ST/Total iPhones unlocked before, how long after 60 days does it unlock? I unlocked a 13 several months ago and I remember it took several days after the 60 days is over and subsequently submitting the unlock ticket on their tfwunlockpolicy website.

It should unlock on the 60th day.... Sometimes you either have to reset the phone or enter different sim card to get it to unlock. But normally at 60 days it unlocks....

I contacted tracfone and they said they could not rebrand it. They said it was locked to straight talk.

I turned the phone on and connected to Wi-Fi. Before contacting tracfone. The tech said that it does not make a difference if I turned it on, he could not rebrand it.

I think because I turned the iPhone on and connected to my Wi-Fi b4 calling tracfone it locked it to straight talk. Make sure you call tracfone first even though the rep said it don't make a difference

I was able to activate on TracPhone with the $19.99 BestBuy card but it took like 40 min on the phone
Did you call tracfone and rebrand before turning the iPhone 13 on and connecting to Wi-Fi?

Tracfone told me I could not rebrand mine

Whenever you get a support rep that doesn't know what they're doing (or refuses to do something) the best advice from experienced users is always "hang up, call again". I suggest you try contacting another rep, you likely will get a different response.
Many ST deals mention being able to rebrand to TF, it just takes a knowledgeable rep & many seem to only be able to read from a manual so keep trying.

Is there a FAQ or step by step guide on this whole "rebranding" thing?

So you just ask them "can you please rebrand my phone, I want to use it with Tracfone?"

And when they do, is it unlocked, or do you buy a 60-day prepaid pan and activate it on it, and then it automatically gets unlocked after 60 days?

So you just ask them "can you please rebrand my phone, I want to use it with Tracfone?"

---My request: "I just got a new iPhone 13 from Straight Talk, can you please help me rebrand it to Tracfone so I can use some Tracfone prepaid cards that I bought long time ago?"

And when they do, is it unlocked, --- NO

or do you buy a 60-day prepaid pan and activate it on it, and then it automatically gets unlocked after 60 days? -- YES

Please refer to the post about buying 90-day Tracfone card from Bestbuy or Target for $19.99. You may also need to set up an account on Tracfone.com; if not, the CSR will help you set up.

The process of rebranding takes 20-40 minutes, that is why I prefer to use online chat, and you can copy & paste some important info in the chat box, such as IMEI, phone card PIN, phone number if you port in an existing one, etc.

Good luck.

If anyone didn't know this. After you activate your phone, you can add this plan and it count as a month. It also worked on plans that said you needed 2 months of silver, etc. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Straig...om=/search
Do you know if that plan includes tethering

If you use a straight talk plan, this is cheaper 1st month. https://www.walmart.com/ip/573842...568e2d5094
The ST customer service rep told me it had to be a minimum of $35 plan for the 2nd month for it to be unlocked.
