This Straight Talk iPhone 13 deal stands out as a low-cost way to get an older but still capable iPhone with a SIM card slot, strong cameras, MagSafe, and solid battery life. The A15 chip keeps it close to the iPhone 14 and not far behind the iPhone 15 for everyday use, and the size and 0.5x lens make it appealing for travel or filming. The main drawback is age, since iOS support is shorter and newer updates can slow it down or drain battery. Unlocking also takes patience, with reports of 60 day service requirements and occasional rebranding or activation hassles.

  • The iPhone 13 can unlock after about 60 days of Straight Talk or TracFone service, sometimes without submitting a request.

  • The iPhone 13 can be rebranded to TracFone in some cases, which may enable cheaper prepaid unlock workflows.

  • The phone can be used on Wi-Fi without activating a SIM or data plan.

  • The iPhone 13 can offer MagSafe support, camera capability, and Dynamic Island features compared with the 16e option.

  • The iPhone 13 can be a practical choice for travelers who want to use a local SIM abroad after unlocking.

  • Rebranding to TracFone can fail when support refuses the request or says rebranding is not possible for the IMEI.

  • The iPhone 13 deal can be risky for unlocking because some iPhones remain locked even after day 60-63 eligibility.

  • Some iOS updates can cause laggy performance and missing keyboard behavior on iPhone 13 models.

  • Unlock status can be inconsistent, with IMEI checkers showing unlocked while iPhone settings still report SIM locked.

Did you call tracfone and rebrand before turning the iPhone 13 on and connecting to Wi-Fi?

Tracfone told me I could not rebrand mine
No, I turned both phones on prior to contacting Tracphone.

Thanks for the tip about chat, much easier than calling.

Worked for me x2, no issues, just be patient.

It should unlock on the 60th day.... Sometimes you either have to reset the phone or enter different sim card to get it to unlock. But normally at 60 days it unlocks....
Yeah unfortunately for me, 2 out of 2 times my iPhone hasn't unlocked on day 60 or 61, though after several days, I forgot how long, the first iPhone did unlock.

Right now my iPhone is on day 63 and not unlocked, with day 60 being Friday, which is when the support ticket was submitted. The unlock request for iPhone is different from Androids. For iPhones tfwunlockpolicy gives you a support ticket number after entering your name/email/phone number. Androids unlock without a support ticket.

Day 61 and 62 are weekend days and TF requests 2 business days. So so hopefully by day 64 (tomorrow) it will unlock. Phone has been on and connected to WiFi for hours at a time and tried reset/different SIM to no avail.

Some Googling lead to many reports of people on StraightTalk not being able to unlock iPhones after the phone became eligible. One example here https://www.reddit.com/r/Straight..._troubles/

Please everyone, do NOT pay for 2nd month of service. Instead, just sue them into bankruptcy.
You and others are not going to be able to sue Verizon into bankruptcy laugh out loud But I do agree that Verizon and its Tracfone brand is in the wrong and that needs to be fixed. But then again FCC can provide relief to Verizon and remove the unlock rule all together.

you clearly do not know how costly lawsuits can be.
They already lost money selling you the phone, and will lose another $1k on lawsuit (count the lawyer's time and damages).
That's $1k+ loss per person minimum.

The 16e is much better, I have both. Everything about the 16e is nicer and the camera is better too. I don't use MagSafe, so I can't comment on that. The iPhone 13 is still a great phone though.
+1 for 16e

Dropping by to say that my handset purchased on 12/4/25 unlocked automatically on the 60th day. Not sure how the recent FCC changes impact any further deals, but this one was a success. Thanks again OP

You're lucky. I activated my iPhone 13 with TracFone on 12/4/2025 after the rebranding, but as of today it still isn't unlocked. I'm not sure what to do next.

Edit: BTW, were you on Straight Talk or TracFone? Thanks.
