I was able to get a Red Pocket e-SIM number for $7.78 and successfully ported it in to Metro. Plus Metro total of $165.24. All in with eSIM port-in and Metro is $173.02. Now we wait for it to unlock lol

I got this promotion 2 days ago, I had to call 5 different stores around my area, all them were charging $400 - $500 price out of the door. Only on one I was able to get $300. They asked me for my ID and I had to verify myself with a selfie scanner, just like the website. FYI

Not any more, it was possible more than one year ago.No, a phone locked to Metro by T-Mobile cannot be used on the T-Mobile network until it is unlocked Metro locks devices for 365 days after activation, and a phone must be fully paid off and meet other requirements before Metro will unlock it.
Thanks for answering my question. It still could be worth it because after only 1 month I might be able to switch to Metro's cheapest plan. I don't need their $55 plan.

I think u have to wait a few months to downgrade plan and pay to do it. Seems like you either stick with their higher rate plans for year or activate and put in drawer till unlock...

Visible still works and someone else mentioned 1-2 other options like tracfone and another. Search for other metro deals there are plenty right now.

It's actually a great phone, I used the 16e for 2 months this summer in transition from 16pro to 17pro. Battery life is unreal with their chip, just plain excellent.

That said, if you try to get this for trade-ins then at least with T-Mobile the 16e does not get the premium trade-in values like the 12 (before), 13, 14 etc. They don't count it as premium, more like an SE4. Not sure for ATT/Verizon. But for actual use this is a pretty great phone if you don't care so much about the limited camera options. If the camera is good enough for your needs then this is all the phone you need for years to come.

what if I switch to the lowest $25/month plan after the first 3 months? it would not be allowed? I guess in that case I just cancel the service and use it only on wifi

I think metro charges you even to switch plans. $50 one time fee, I think. Others can confirm

There's a Boost $5 SIM with one month plan included on Amazon. That's AT&T service. You need to talk to customer service to get port out PIN.

Phone unlocking in one year is a deal-breaker.

I read somewhere else it's around $250-$270 total, unlocks in 60 days.

3 Month Plan - $195 ($65 per mo)
FULL retail tax of device (5-10%) - $60

Plus whatever else they try and stick on ya.

Almost the same as buying on local marketplace/eBay - metro is the most appealing with price point at $155 but one year unlock policy hurts

I'll bite at the $200 with 60 day unlock
I'm waiting for the same thing ;-)

A year unlock is a long time. The use case that works for me is to treat this as a spare phone that comes online in a year. Someone in my family will always break their phone at an inopportune time, or benefit from an upgrade to a 16e, which is still newer than most of our phones.
