It seems so... the handful of, "is it worth playing now?" videos generally present a better game. Particularly, forced stealth is no longer present, bugs have been cleaned up, and little gameplay issues have been reworked. The gameplay loop is still very Ubisoft-open-world style, so if you don't like their other games like the Assassin's Creed and Far Cry series, you'll probably still dislike this.

Star Wars Outlaws on PlayStation 5 looks much stronger after updates, with forced stealth removed, bugs cleaned up, and several gameplay rough edges reworked. The game still leans hard into Ubisoft open world structure, but the Star Wars atmosphere, vibes, and tight enough worlds carry it well. Performance also seems solid on PC, and the $15 price makes the base game feel worthwhile. The main question is whether that familiar Ubisoft formula and Star Wars setting appeal to you, making this a solid pick at the right price.

Star Wars fans who want an open-world Ubisoft-style game because the main wildcard is whether you're a Star Wars fan, and commenters say they enjoyed it for the most part even though it doesn't stray far from the Ubisoft formula.

Players who are specifically waiting for a cheaper entry point (like $15) because multiple commenters say it's "definitely recommend for $15" and that they picked it up at that price to add to their backlog.

PC players who just want to know if it runs fine because one commenter says they played on PC and it seemed just fine with no issues.

People who were turned off by earlier issues but want to try it after updates because commenters say forced stealth is no longer present, bugs are cleaned up, and gameplay issues were reworked enough to be worth playing now.

Gamers who like "vibes and atmosphere" in tight open worlds because one commenter says they nailed the vibes and atmosphere, with "good enough gameplay" and "tight enough worlds" that kept them going.

Ubisoft formula fatigue players because commenters say if you're tired of "The Ubisoft formula," this game doesn't stray far from the gameplay seen in other Ubisoft titles like WD2 and the AC games.

People who don't like Ubisoft open-world loops (e.g., Assassin's Creed/Far Cry fans who dislike those) because the loop is still very Ubisoft-open-world style, and commenters say you'll probably still dislike it if you don't like their other games.
OrangeJulius
Watch Dogs fans who wanted a new Watch Dogs instead of a Star Wars skin because one commenter says it basically played like a Star Wars version of Watch Dogs and that the earlier consensus preferred a new Watch Dogs game over a Watch Dogs-style game with a weird Star Wars skin.
SavingsDude40
Players who were disappointed by the PC demo feeling "empty and hollow" because one commenter says they dogged on the game after the demo felt empty/hollow, even though they later enjoyed it after buying at $15.

Common Questions (4)

Yes, $15 is a strong buy if you want a Star Wars open-world game. The game has been improved with forced stealth removed, bugs cleaned up, and gameplay issues reworked, though it still follows a familiar Ubisoft-style loop that may not appeal if you dislike Assassin's Creed or Far Cry.
OrangeJulius kfunk7 SpaceWok OrangeJulius
Yes, it still plays very much like a Ubisoft formula game, with gameplay similar to Watch Dogs 2 and the Assassin's Creed series. The main difference is the Star Wars setting, so fans of the franchise are more likely to enjoy it even if the structure feels familiar.
OrangeJulius SavingsDude40 OrangeJulius
Several early issues have reportedly been addressed, including forced stealth and some bugs. A specific gripe about carrying new weapons longer was also said to be fixed, since weapons no longer auto-drop as easily when climbing.
OrangeJulius consumeralert
Yes, the season pass has reportedly dropped to about $16 from $40, and the two story DLCs can be bought separately for about $13.50 total. The season pass also includes several cosmetics.

Has the game gotten optimized enough to justify playing it yet?

Which stores still pricematch Walmart? Best Buy? Target?

Also, would it be better to wait for a sale on the Gold edition that includes DLC?

Some Targets have this on clearance for less than $9 right now. YMMV. It's also like a special edition with a little added DLC or something.

Picked this up the last time it was posted. They absolutely nailed the vibes and atmosphere with this one. Good enough gameplay with tight enough worlds to keep you going. A solid 8/10.
