FYI, but a new Apple TV was supposed to launch soon, at least according to rumors. https://www.macrumors.com/roundup/apple-tv/
This is NOT a recommendation for or against buying one, but rather a heads up just so that no one is surprised IF the new model is released shortly after making a purchase.

All of the things you hate about it are the reason I was happy to pay a premium for it. It's extremely fast for a smart TV box and doesn't have any junk like branded buttons or ads on screen. The only reason I don't have them on all my TVs yet is because of the rumored updated version but that rumor has been going on so long that I might just grab these at this price

Once you understand that you cannot claim those three months if you had claimed them previously with another Apple product, it doesn't.

Yes, hence why I said "supposed to launch soon". Likely too late for a release now, but who knows since all of this is speculation, rather than verifiable information.

Should be taken with a grain of salt, but I figured more information is better than less when deciding on whether or not to pull the trigger on a purchase of a product.

Also, thanks for the downvotes. Excellent motivation to reinforce the behavior of users who spend (waste) their own time contributing to a forum, for obv no reward.
Are you waiting for the supposed next gen?

Once you understand the purchase includes three months of free AppleTV and Apple Music it makes the price of a $100 a significant bargain. I have a Roku Ultra but it sits in a box now as the AppleTV is better on so many fronts from dreamy screensavers to huge bandwidth and lots of extra features.

Beside the apple tv and music, which I do not use, what is the advantage to use this box when compared to box like Google and Onn?

I literally bought 2 last time they were at this price. One at Costco and one at Best Buy. After trying desperately to force myself to like them, I returned the Costco one. Still have the other. It's basically brand new and still in its box for months now, after multiple attempts to try and like it when I first got it. Didn't work with continue watching with Netflix. Doesn't support live TV unless you use an app (ie no free google tv channels, no dvr compatibility with YTTV). I bought a silicone remote condom for it within a couple of days because the remote is too angular. No quick buttons on the remote to load streaming apps. The only appeal of it is aesthetic with the much vaunted "buttery smooth" interface, which is completely moot since you use that 1% of the time to simply select an app and then you're watching a show and it's absolutely irrelevant. Disrecommended. I got an Onn Plus 4K, installed Projectivy and haven't looked back.

Thanx. Ordered one, noticed that I still had the $45 promotion credit bonus from my signed in membership. Came out to $63 after tax.

Apple TVs starting with the 4K version have stuck to a consistent four year lifecycle. That would be up in 11 months. Take that for however you want.
Second gen was released on 2021, gen 3 was released on 2022.

I have the Onn 4k Android box. I have to run it in the stripped down mode (I can't remember what it's called), but even then there are screen sizes ads in the menu. It gets goofy and needs to be reboot (and takes tons of clicks to achieve). The app buttons are way too prominent and get pressed EVERY SINGLE time I pickup or put down the remote and I have to fight my way back to the content I was in the middle of watching.

No brainer at this price. Hands down the best streaming solution but a new generation will be out within 6 months (if not earlier). Larger storage version and with Ethernet is the one to have (this version).

I.domt get the appeal. You can get a minipc and a remote and you are golden. get everything and more. What's the point of $100 unitasker?
You're paying for the Apple interface, ecosystem, and convenience. IMO, those are reasons enough if it just works without messing with it.

F1 will be on Apple TV in 2026. I avoid apple at all costs but I might have to buy this.
