I have this printer with a 3rd party enclosure kit. I have a lot of printers and this one caused me quite some work from clogging often. The stock hotend's heat break is inadequate and prone to cause your filament to soften and jam in the extruder gears. A 3rd party hotend is required if you enclose your printer.
The software is not polished and you need to have understanding of klipper to make it work. It is fast, even for a printer of this size but its print quality suffers. I wanted a large enclosed corexy printer and this fit the bill for $400 ish.
This printer is for people who like tinkering with their printers more than tinkering with their models.

I remember a couple of years ago Sovol would've been a contender for which 3D printer to get (or at least a worthwhile consideration), but they've been left in the dust by all the other 3D printer companies

I think the benefit is a large print bed and competent quality, but the current generation of printers eclipsed the features on this one.

A large print bed is nothing to sneeze at, though.

You can add speed, multicolor, super balancing, but nothing that's affordable is really this large

Yeah the SV08 line shines in print volume. The SV08 Max is unbelievable size to price ratio, there's nothing else even close.

Absolutely. If you want an open source type experience with nothing locked down and hidden. No proprietary parts or firmware etc. this is like getting a Google phone. Samsungs phones may be better overall but if you can't stand the bloatware you'd get a Pixel. This is the same thing.

The biggest advantage besides that is the printer kinematics. Unlike a typical Corexy the bed on this printer does not move up and down. Nor does it move back and forward like a bed slinger. This has what's called a "flying gantry". Meaning the entire top moves. Amazing for stability. If you are printing tall cosplay parts for example you can really max out the z height without concern the model will fall over due to the bed movement.

Great printer, great price. These were like $600 at launch iirc

Yes but the sovol is probably 300-400 cheaper and you don't have to build it and tune yourself

This is not the printer to do it with unless you want to be into 3d printers rather than 3d printing.
