This is not a smart device that gets better with every iteration ... it's a headphone that at the end of the day it just produces sound and newer ones don't always do a better job at producing sound or being more comfortable. sennheiser and Hifiman are prime examples of it .

As far as the "tech stuff" like ANC and battery etc those are good enough not the latest but not crap either , sure they could be better but then folks would complain about price

Just called Best Buy and had them do a price match as I picked up a pair last week. They are also $399 there. For folks on the fence, I also had the Sony WH-1000XM6 and I prefer the Airpod Max. Your use case might be different, but I enjoy the fact that my ears don't touch the driver. I do not think these are heavy at all and I use them almost daily for hours at a time. One of the reasons I switched to the Max's was because I can easily use them on the Apple TV when my kids are asleep or switch to my iPhone and iPad easily. The ANC is top notch, as good as the Sony XM6s in my opinion.

I tried these today and compared them with some of the other options. The weight on these is very noticeable and not in a good way. The sound profile isn't worth the $400 tag imo. Definitely try them out before you order them. Bose QC gen 2 or Sony XM6 are cheaper in this price category, have a similar or better sound profile and are way more comfortable.
