We have been through quite a few of the Harbor Freight ones over the years for transferring fuel from gas cans. We have found that hanging them up (vertically of course) to dry has made them last quite a bit longer. Of course you also have to handle the hose daintily so as not to crack the plastic and cause a leak. We use them frequently and the last two pumps each lasted almost a year.

Gravity with a slight taste of gasoline works better

Yep. It specifically states in the instructions that running it dry will break it

No, you do not need to taste gas, try this. I have 2 and I think they will last a lifetime.

Harbor freight has the same pump everyday for less money. I used one to transfer diesel from a 5 gallon container to a diesel heater and it worked perfectly...never had an issue. I believe they take 2 D batteries. Transfer rate is reasonable, and it does a decent job of getting most of what is left at the bottom, although there will be some remnants, but that's to be expected given there's an offset to avoid intake of sediment.

Thank you, but I was asking about the manual pump I linked.

I used a similar one from HF as well.
Terrible for transferring gear oil or anything more viscous than diesel in my experience.

I got one of these for the race track, so I don't have to hold up heavy 5 gal jugs that pour slow. Broke within a month. Gas comes out the filter and leaks everywhere. The one with 4x AA batteries and screws on to the major jug sizes (like 5 gal) is the one to get. This is junk

If this interfaced with other 18-20v tool battery packs that would be sweet. My luck with these is I never have enough D batteries or they die in the shed between uses.

Yes I know. I was trying to get all the old gas out of a bilt in boat tank. I could not see the level of gas and it ran out froze before I could react. I did read the diredction and I do understand. However I am warraning people that if you do anything with this pump that even comes close to the bottom of the tank it will lock up. You can never use it to empty anything. You can tranfer some fuel from one thing to another. But you can never transfer all the fuel! Try it if you want hope you have better luck then me.

Is it good to pump old gas from car?
My buddy left his car in garage for over a year and now the car doesn't start. Off course the battery needs to be changed. Will this help to drain old gas from the car?
