This 5 gallon gas can is mainly valued as a cheap way to store and pour fuel, especially when similar cans have been hard to find under $20. The supplied nozzle is the biggest drawback, with reports that it is awkward, slow, and can leak if used often. Still, the can itself is described as serviceable, and replacement spouts or pump setups can make it work much better. It is a practical budget pick if you can live with the safety nozzle setup.

  • people who are willing to maintain/repair the nozzle to stop leaks because commenters said leaks can be fixed by replacing the o-ring/gasket (and even described disassembling the nozzle assembly to prevent leaking)

  • people who need a 5-gallon gas can and have been struggling to find one under $20 because this was called a "real decent price" at $12.88 and commenters said they couldn't find anything under $20 for months

  • car and tractor owners who want to pour fuel quickly from a 5-gallon can because the nozzle was described as "incredibly annoying for anything but a car... or maybe a tractor," implying it works best for those bigger-fuel jobs

  • homeowners filling seasonal equipment like a 2-stage snowblower who want easier refueling because one commenter used an automatic fuel transfer pump with the can and said it made filling their snowblower much easier

  • buyers who plan to use a spout replacement to speed up filling because one commenter said a replacement spout let the can empty in about 2 minutes versus ~10 minutes with the supplied nozzle

  • buyers who need a can that seals well out of the box because multiple commenters reported the can doesn't seal around the nozzle and leaks, with one saying "cheap cans always leak"

  • people trying to use the can for small power equipment (like small engines) because commenters said the nozzle is painful/a pain in the ass for anything besides a car or tractor

  • people who want a "safety nozzle" setup for fuel jugs because one commenter said VP Racing fuel jugs are "absolute garbage" specifically when used with the safety nozzle

  • people who want the older "old school" style cans because commenters noted regulations may make those older-style cans illegal to make now, limiting options

  • people who don't want to deal with nozzle-cap gasket wear over time because one commenter said after 2-3 years the nozzle-cap gaskets tend to not seal well and leak gas/fumes (even though replacement gaskets help)

Complete with the stupid idiot nozzle
Look on Youtube on how to remove the internal spring and you'll find it's not as stupid as the government tried to make it!

I have had some of these as long as 20 years (I keep 15 of them filled in the garage for my Kroger fuel points program) over time the oldest one will seep at the top if you put the full 5 gallon in (on the seem) only one has done that.
For filling the cars I use a shake siphon (available at amazon but cheaper and better quality at Home Depot) I place the can on top of a four foot ladder or a rolling garbage bin, put the siphon in give it 3 shakes and its as fast as the gas pump - no way would I hold these to fill a car at my age. Over the last 16 years or so I have saved an insane amount of money at saving $1 to $1.25 per gallon.

link to the siphon I use if it will help anyone.

Dumb question: how long can you store gas in one of these? Does it just last forever?

All depends on the gas. Garbage gas maybe a couple months. Top Tier maybe as much as 6-8 months. If you're really going to push using aged gas, at least mix it with new gas. Or put in a fuel stabilizer (search them up) if you know you're going to be storing it for a while. (Like in a lawnmower or leaf blower; anything seasonal that uses gas that you might not use for months or until next year.) Gas will not last indefinitely like in those zombie or apocalyptic movies. Just pour it into your car to use and replace the gas for tools on the regular.

Highly recommend these spout replacements: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DQ23D4YD
I've used them with this can and they're great. Can empty the whole can in about 2 minutes vs 10 minutes with the supplied nozzle. Nozzle plastic is fairly rigid so it won't deform or flatten when you pour. Also recommend sawing off the plastic tooth near the hole.

Hey. Thanks for this,. I'm gonna get 2 a spin. The red ones were less than $60 w/ tax shipped. Less than $30 a can? Let's hope they're good.

I have a couple of this type. I break off the little thing you're supposed to push in. Works slightly better, not as good as the old/replacement style, but better.
Bomgaars had some of another type, same size, on sale for $10 before $10 store credit rebate on BF. Got a few. They have a twist lock that works better than these type (opinion).
