Noise canceling cannot be turned off on these. Even if you adjust it to 0 with a custom mode - it still passes through.

If you're sensitive to ANC like me, pass. I returned mine.

Why would you buy headphones explicitly designed for noise cancelling??

Because you don't need ANC at all times. Some people are more sensitive to the effects of ANC than others. ANC can also amplify certain sounds and frequencies. The real question is why you can't turn it off at all where you could on earlier models.
