Samsung's 1TB Pro Plus microSD card stands out as a fast, reliable storage option for handheld gaming, Switch backups, and other large file transfers. The included Samsung adapter gets praise when paired with the card, and the card has been used successfully for nearly 1TB of Switch data at about 80 MB/s, as well as heavy games on a Steam Deck with no problems. The main caution is the adapter itself, since cheap USB adapters can disconnect and the bundled SD adapter has been called slow or even counterfeit in one case. Pricing also looks less special than the listing suggests, with similar or lower totals available elsewhere.

trouble is, storage and memory prices are trending upwards. memory has already gone quite high with storage not quite as bad yet, but it's likely to follow a similar pattern. $80 might be close to the best we'll see this holiday season. it's a tough call at this point to know what will happen over the next 2 to 5 days. here's hoping we can at least score a deal or two.

after the holiday season:
* i would expect prices to increase noticeably so, especially in the new year and into the first six months. some things have already been hit hard, but i don't know the timeline for when and what else will see jumps.
* the primary culprit? AI data centers needs. manufacturers are reallocating their production lines to more profitable memory and storage products that are geared towards enterprise and data center use, all the while leaving shortages and dramatic price increases for consumers.
* until either the AI bubble breaks (if we're in one), or there's some breakthrough in AI processing efficiency, most of us are in a tough situation at this point. if you see a deal now, or you think you'll need at some point over the next year, probably worth a consideration not to wait too long.
* while likely obvious to most based on the above, it will also affect the prices of devices that have memory or storage onboard. i think i've still seen plenty of decent deals for items that have onboard ram or ssds, but at some point here too they'll be hit by the above.

At this price, I wouldn't buy this unless I need it. There are prices on things too good to pass up even if not need it, this price is not that.

This is the kind of consumer mentality that makes things like electronics, which should decrease in price over time, to go up in price. This is not a deal.

How does samsung quality compare to other memory brands?
Samsung is top-tier and often regarded as the leader in the industry.

Is there a noticeable difference between the EVO and Pro?
I refuse to buy sandisk after multiple failures. I now buy Samsung only, they have been reliable so far.

The Samsung Pro Plus microSD card is a fantastic card especially when used with the Samsung usb adapter.
I heavily disagree on their usb adapter. When you need to use Fat32 because of an ancient device, you get I/O errors within minutes transferring large caches of files. A legitimate SD adapter solves this issue.

On topic, this card works fine in a WiiU using the sdusb mod.

Personally, I don't buy memory cards or USB drives from amazon... too many tales of faked brands or resized cards being sent out. However, the same cards are available direct from Samsung at the same or better price (better if you qualify for their extra discount program). https://slickdeals.net/f/18878962-1tb-samsung-pro-plus-microsdxc-card-adapter-80-or-less-79-99

I can't say that you're wrong, but if you pay attention there's ALWAYS a bogeyman of some sort or another, and this year it's AI. Yes, AI is real and important, but hype is real too, and we're awash in it right now.

All these enormous AI centers haven't even been broken ground, let along being built yet, so they're not sucking up all the oxygen like many would like you to believe.

Amazon AI, xAI, Nvidia, etc. are no where near the large purchasing stage that will follow. Amazon has only announced siting, and while X has been going for a while, but build outs are not imminent.

The fabs for processors, nand, and SD related products are all different. Unless they're tearing something down, it should be close to status quo right now. But there's nothing like the fear of a shortage, bolstered by truckloads of flying bull shit to help prices - and most of all profits - rise out of sight..If there's going to be such a huge demand, it's the memory makers that ought to be "breaking ground" because new processor fabs have been under construction for quite a while now (not all are trouble free though).

What we're seeing is more manipulation. We've had fake shortages forever, and it's usually nothing more than predatory pricing; they do it because they can. We had the Thailand flood that was milked for many years, and bottom dwellers like Seagate - who was not affected by the flood at all - used it for profiteering as they raised prices and turned warranties into fairy dust.

I'm just glad that I have enough to get by (but I do want a single 2TB micro SD card). I've got enough external storage and I've been cleaning up drives to eliminate wasted space. I've also got lots of SSDs, and unless there's a real need, I'm going to do my best to sit this farce out.

N.B.- what I don't know is what kind of memory Optimus uses (uses a Tesla AI processor), and/or if it's something other than what they already manufacture.

Looks like it's $75.99 on the Samsung website if you have EPP.
