If you have a high school or college student in your life, these are not only useful, but quite the default for a stylish backpack.

I'm Field technician that flies all around the country for work, and I've used the crap out of my borealis backpack. Five years and thousands of miles later, I'm looking at getting a new one. The back padding and shoulder straps are just as good as day one, but dragging its bottom across enough concrete floors has finally created some tiny holes, and I think it's time for a new one. Any decent sized North face backpack under a hundred bucks is a good deal in my mind.

Within the last month or so, this bag was at $39, then $59 and now $69. Something to consider before pulling the trigger.

Both the borealis and the router have skimpy shoulder straps and no hip belt. Good packs in other respects.

I'm on a 3 day trip and only brought this pack. It's not quite as usable as the full zip travel options but it's completely doable as a travel pack.
