This is a thread where you can talk about whatever you want but let's skip politics, religion, sex, and illegal drugs. I know, what else is there? lol

Season 2 of The Pitt is out in January so I'll have to do the $2.99 special on HBO Max.

That sounds very festive! I stick to choc chip, I used pandemic lockdown time to perfect MY idea of the perfect cookie. It involves a lot of chocolate, both a 20oz bag of Nestle dark choc chips but also chopped up chocolates I got 80% off after Christmas/Easter/Halloween. Real butter, equal parts white, brown and turbindo sugars.
I am so jealous😂. That has been my goal for many years now. I have a love/hate thing with chocolate chip cookies. I find a recipe I like or can work with it. I'll tweak until I love it and once I have finally "perfected" it, I find something wrong with it and start all over again.

I also need to perfect a banana bread recipe....again. This one hurt because I actually had a recipe that I had tweaked off and on for a year. I only had it written down because I was still changing this and that. I finally say, yes, this is it and get ready to type it up and my paper came up missing. I don't know if someone else picked it up or if I accidentally threw it away. I have looked everywhere and still can't find it. That one hurts.

You're more committed than I. The perfect cookie was it for me.

But "perfect" chocolate chip cookie is subjective, depends on what YOU like.

I like thin & chewy with crispy edges.
That means less flour, more butter.
And I've found the turbindo/demerara sugar adds to the chewiness without making it cakey.

I use pink salt, less than the recipe calls for, b/c I think it has more interesting flavors from other minerals than table salt

And the chopped up candy bars or chocolates made for eating melt better than the chips.

During the holidays, I mix in
-toasted coconut, not sweetened
-toasted almond slivers (not to everyone's taste)
-broken candy cane. Keep the bits away from the edges, even on a silicone baking sheet. They make the cookie spread far too much if the pieces are too big or near the edge. This is the most popular option.

I hope this gives you some ideas as you search for YOUR perfect cookie recipe.

About banana bread, well, I freeze overripe bananas & give them to MIL She makes a banana cake. She likes bananas so much hers NEVER get overripe.

Should I ask for her recipe? It probably dates back to the 30s.

I can relate a little bit. I messed up my collar bone back in the 80's and I could never get comfortable.
I know your body has had the crap beat out of it from your active lifestyle, I hope the discomfort eventually went away. It gets a little more dicey at our age, things not healing exactly back to specs...

Here are some quick tv reviews.

Paradise - yes but I didn't like the last episode

Fargo - yes but only if you're a Billy Bob Thornton fan (questionable morality, unlikeable characters, and plot holes)

Handmaid's Tale - maybe on season 1 (very weird and a lot of it didn't make sense), no on season 2

The Killing - no (although the 2 detectives are good)

Superstore - yes, you'll crack up

Abbott Elementary - loved it

Justified - yes
Justified was great
Handmaid's tale - I think reading the book helps. I quit when the show quit following the book but it's not so much about action or even the story, but a cautionary tale that many people see coming to life in the current USA.

We were able to get Disney+/Hulu for $5/mo, up to 1yr but we'll probably only do 2 months while we're huddled inside trying to keep warm (sorry to whine when there are those with actual SNOW but 40 in the Bay Area feels colder to me than 20 in MT. It's the damp/marine influence I think).
We're bingeing Mandalorian. Better than other things we've watched.

My issue with Handmaid's Tale was with the logic. If women are devalued to the point of only being good for having babies and sex, why did the men have wives? All they needed were sex slaves and servants. The ceremony thing made absolutely no sense. The camera focused way too much on the blonde. They could've cut the episodes in half if the director wasn't so in love with her. It's ironic when you think about it.

The second season totally lost me. I quit after the first episode. Women who could give birth (the Handmaids) were the most important commodity they had and they were going to hang them because they protested something. Come on...

There's a show on Netflix called 3% that's similar to Handmaid's Tale in a lot of ways. It ultimately fails but parts of it are brilliant.

Hulu has twice as many commercials as the other streaming services. I had a 1-month free trial but I cancelled it and paid $18.99 for no ads. I know, I'm a sucker but I couldn't handle so many commercials. I joined Hulu for seasons 5 and 6 of Line of Duty. Season 5 was a big disappointment and season 6 is no longer available. Sometimes you can't win...

I tend to pick apart shows too much. I wish that I could just sit back and enjoy them. The most frightening thing I've seen recently was a documentary on social media. Even the people who design the evil stuff can't resist the temptation and fall prey to it.
