If you have a Pi-hole you can still block ads on Disney+, which means if you watch Hulu through Disney+ you can block ads on Hulu as well.

This can change at any time, like it did for Peacock, but it has been working like a champion for a couple years now.

Having experience with Hulu with ads, it's definitely worth it to pay a little more for no ads.
They go a little overboard.
Sometimes the ads were nearly as long as the show I was trying to watch.

I'm having the same issue. I have to keep accessing Hulu shows through Disney+ which is missing some content that I regularly watch.

I reached out to customer service via the chat and asked if they could honor the promotion. The agent told me, she would try. Came back and said she couldn't honor it, and the promotion was for new customer and returning customers that hadn't been active for more than a month. I told her just go ahead and cancel it immediately.

My thought was I was going to create a new account, however after the chat and re-logged in, I was prompted to sign up with the promotion....so I got the $15 ad-free plan (I had to select the $5 Ad plan then upgrade for ad free for $10 on the next page)
