The Dreame L40 Ultra is a feature packed robot vacuum and mop that stands out for strong floor cleaning, smart navigation, and a full service dock with auto emptying and mop handling. The extendable side brush and mop removal for vacuum only runs are major draws, and the app adds flexible controls like custom suction levels and multi story mapping. The main caveats are weaker carpet performance than hard floors, occasional software oddities, and promo codes that can be finicky or conflict with free add ons. At around $360 to under $400, it lands as a compelling value for mostly hard floor homes.

Dreame has 5 of the Top 10 robot vacuums on Vacuum Wars. It's the market leader. I have the L50 Ultra and it's perfect.

The L40 Ultra was the best vacuum on the list not even a year ago.

Do not ever buy a vacuum without first checking out Vacuum Wars YouTube channel or their website:

If I was a betting person, I bet their page gets a kickback on this. I used to work in manufacturing and we'd pay them to "test" it and then put out stellar reviews for us. Back 8 years ago we paid $10K - $50K for them to "test" our product.

is X40 still available on costco? I can not find it. I see Dreame GoVac 508 for $499
The Dreame GoVac 508 is just the Costco version of the X40 Ultra. (Supposedly / maybe with a different / improved baseboard in the dock.) Honestly, it's hard to consider the alternatives when you can get that one with the Costco warranty/support behind it.

I am just wondering why no one is interested in NARWAL Freo Pro? Almost same price - suction power is less but design looks better.

They specifically say that they earn by referral links to Amazon and not by manufacturers

For me it was the extending side brush on the Dreame vs the Pivoting vacuum on the Narwal. The Narwal also uses a LOT of water for my liking . L40 has more suction and the ability to leave the mopping pads at the base too. Only thing better in Narwal that I could find was its supposed to be better at hair pickup ( can be countered by Tricut brush) and their Dirstsense ( which is good but uses a ton of water)

The $40 coupon doesn't work with the free roller. I tried a bunch of times. So it's up to you which promo you'd rather have: $40 off, or a $45 roller added on.

Dreame L40 Ultra and MOVA P10 Pro Ultra support Valetudo, so there are open source options for it, albeit difficult to install it if you are not hardware and software savvy. Can get the MOVA for $240 with the GOVX coupon and 20% Cashback PayPal offer.
From what the internets have told me, Valetudo is extremely hard for an ordinary human to implement. You apparently have to buy a generic circuit board, solder some connections on it, then attach it to the vacuum, plug in a cable, and work some kind of computer magic on it. The risk of turning the robot into a big saucer for flower pots is quite high. Maybe the process will get easier by the time Mova/Dreame goes out of business, but it's not worth the risk to me now. Or is there a better way?

The following info is on their site so I hope it's true:

Independent & Reader-Funded
Vacuum Wars purchases every robot vacuum at full retail price and does not accept free samples, loaner units, or paid features. Brands see our conclusions only after they're published, giving them zero input on what we test, how we test, or what we write. The result is reporting that serves shoppers—not manufacturers.
