It briefly showed $380 for a fair condition open box last night. I added it to my cart, but didn't follow through, and an hour later, the price changed to ~$500. That's been happening a lot lately with Best Buy... pricing changes for open box items.

I dont know if they improved the mechanism but the hinges on this kind of model lasted for couple of years for me. By year 3 I had to replace them.

This has been happening for a while for a lot of products. Even new items. They'll show out of stock and you can keep checking to see if they've gotten any more. It'll be out of stock right up until the moment the price goes back up, and then all of a sudden they'll be available.

Apples and oranges. The micro center unit has a more efficient (lower wattage) Intel CPU which is marginally slower, but it has a 16 inch 3k OLED screen (instead of 14 inch 2k IPS screen) weighs almost 1 pound more, has more RAM, and is a refurb versus new from Best Buy. What is your use case and what matters most to you?

Most of my work is in the browser. I use Edge and run hundreds of tabs and I've been doing OK on my surface book 3.About 15% of the time vibecoding with VS code and cursor.Plenty of Zoom, some Google Meet. Slack. Almost entirely in the Microsoft stack otherwise.Long battery life would be great, but not a dealbreaker. Good touchscreen and keyboard required.

I consider myself a superpower user of Windows and can think of around, but usually do not nowadays. Hardware reliability is super important though. I'm not a verse to mint/refurbished models, including from sites like Swappa.

If there is a different model I should look at, please do suggest!

Thank you!

It's $508 for fair, $546 for Excellent. The fair condition open box was briefly available for ~$380. Again, this seems to happen with Best Buy open box a lot. It's almost like when the sale starts on the item, there can be pricing mistakes for Open Box that get fixed within an hour or two.

The 16 inch from MicroCenter is a better desktop replacement than this one from Best Buy. You will appreciate the added screen space and RAM, while the added weight and slightly slower CPU won't be noticeable based on what you do. Just my 2 cents.I use a Mac 90% of the time at home and it really doesn't matter which version of those you buy: they are all going to do the basics and do them well for many years. My most recent Mac is nearly ten years old. I'm finally at the point where I'm looking to replace it.
